  1. I have all these sub parts laying around, and a sub on the way. The one on the way is from Porsche356. Its an MBW with gen crown and noob dial. Been looking for that exact setup for months now, so I wouldn't have to mess with anything.

My plan was to soop up my noob in the meantime with eta 2836. I bought all the parts except datewheel. The one I have is damaged, there are 5 numbers missing, 31, 1,2,3,4. Well its past the 4th and before the 31st so I put it all together just to wear for the weekend.

I bought a noob dial from josh, I guess it's noob, but it looks a little bolder than the dial that came with it, which had a scratch on it. Modded the CG's, sanded polished and brushed the case since it had some dings, etc on it, and rebrushed the bracelet. I also put in a new bezel insert, but I forgot where I got it. If anyone likes it I'll check my ebay and see who I bought it from.

I bought a gen crown, and then decided to use that on my DW instead. The crown on this noob is the crown from the DW, so it's a little better than the stock one.

Dial spacer is a little large on this, so the hands sit frighteningly close to the dial. Barely clearing the markers, but I'll put a thinner spacer on the movement when I add it to the MBW

The eta is going in the MBW next week or so, so this will be just another noob with modded CG's soon. OH and crooked cyclops.....(anyone have a 14060 dial??)

I can rock this for a few days. Let me know what you guys think of the insert, esp the pearl. I'm thinking of sanding the back of the insert down a little more to recess it better.

  2. My first question would be, why wouldnt a genuine bezel work??? There are several placed out there that make replacement solid gold bezels for Rolex watches. I dont think with gold at $1k per oz. you are going to find a gold mid link oyster bracelet for $400 though. Maybe DOUBLE that price...

Luenfat sells a 14k hollow mid link solid gold one for 369 plus shipping, and some other guy sells 10k Jubilee for even less, but no oyster unfortunately. 10k probably looks worse than plated though.

Its definitely doable, there are Gen Dials and Inserts on TZ Sales Corner every now and again. Then you'd have to get a gold Datewheel, the Hands, Gen Crown, and an aftermarker bracelet w/ Gen Clasp. If you time it right and are patient I dont see why it cant be done. There is a post over on RWI on how to install a Gen Bezel onto a MBW using a brake hone.

In the meantime, wear the 16610 until you have all the parts. Good Luck, sounds like this is going to be quite a project. :notworthy: I remember seeing a tt 1680 with lots of gen parts on the FS boards last month and it went quite quickly.

    Cheers ;)

I was stalking the shi* out of that watch last month. Getting in there with a brake hone sounds fun. Ha. I may have to piece this slowly over time and I'll probably use all the parts on a new case, not the one I just bought from you.

I've done it.. all parts are solid gold

That is awesome snow, thanks. How long did it take you to do?

I'm now thinking of turning my noob into a 14060, but the real question is: WHY CAN'T I LEAVE STUFF ALONE?!!?

  3. Terje-

Exactly, but if I bought a TT sub, I'd want to change all the plated stuff out with solid anyway, so same amount of work I guess. Except for sourcing the dial and clasp. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

Funny part is I don't even have the MBW yet.... I planned on leaving it alone when I paid for it. Oops.

  4. I'm thinking of turning the MBW I just bought into a two tone sub. No biggie, right? I wish. I want at least a solid gold band on it, don't really care if it's 10k, 14k or 18k, as long as I get a good deal. Where can I pick these up for reasonable prices? $400 seems too much for me.

I guess a gen bezel won't fit, what can I do about that besides put a plated one on there? (I hate plated)

    Crown is easy.

I would rather have a black/gold dial than the blue, is there a TT noob dial out there?

If I do need blue, is the noob color ok?

Clasp would have to be rep for the logo, or gen if I could find one that I'd be willing to buy.

Seems like a big pain in the ass if you ask me, do you think it's worth it?

  5. They look like they are glued on top of smaller markers or something.... maybe the markers are just bad period if they are 2 ply or whatever. See if the dealer will send you a new dial, then you can skip the return shipping and extra waiting that comes with it. Of course it will be sent registered airmail so it might take a month anyway.... Just might be less of a hassle since you could still work on the rest of the stuff, AR, Datewheel, etc while you are waiting.

  6. I live near a college... or as we call it where I live... a Uni. And there are GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS!!!!

    Have fun!

and 25% of them are only 18! Don't know if thats good or bad though. Leaning towards good.

PS You don't deserve your license back after a DUI, but you seem to realize that. ;)

Ouch I hope you're kidding.... I was 20, just a baby come on. I don't think people who crash and kill someone should get it back. Ever.

That's the way it should be.:)

True, school shouldn't be a prison. I was a little surprised though. Then again, lightning never strikes the same place twice so I guess everyone felt OK.

  7. Thanks everyone. I'm so busy getting everything together. Deadline is a while away, but I missed the priority deadline. I should still be OK though.

Funny thing- when I went to the admissions office last week, I met up with my brother and I was going to just go back to his apt but he said F it, just go to class with me. So I did. Later I realized that it was amazing how 3 weeks ago there was a shooting by someone who wasn't a student, and I could just walk into a class and sit down without being asked any questions. WTF.

  8. I've been thinking of this for a while now, and I have finally comitted. I am going back to college. I should say starting since I've only taken 2 courses, but hey.

I told my father and he said I'm too old and lauged. WTF? I'll be 28 next month big deal. I work for my dad and my job SUCKS ebay used to be a good source for extra cash, but that sucks too, and it's harder and harder to find things for less than I can sell them for anyway.

I got a DUI 7 F-ing years ago and they still won't give me my license back so if I go to a university for 4 years at least I won't need it for that amount of time.

I go take the ACT on Apr 12th, and the score is being sent to Norther Illinois University. I went to the admissions office last week and all I need to get in is a 23. I took 3 practice tests and I had 2 31's and a 32. I just need to polish up on trig and calc and I'm good.

I had a near perfect score on my GED so I assume I'll be getting a good score on my ACT as well. The GED was back in 2003 BTW.

I started off as a cocky dumbass earlier in life but I'm now trying to get what I deserve and am capable of. I'm pretty excited that it's all coming together and I can't wait.

  9. This story reminds me of when I was at the shoe dept. in Nordstroms and EVERY shoe salesman had a rolex on. I saw a seadweller, "vintage" GMT I, Sub (obviously), DJ, and someone had something that looked like a PAM from afar. Now, I can see if 1 had a gen, fine. But the 2 guys I asked about thier watches both said they were old. Problem is, the dweller had no holes and it was definitely not 20 years old like he said, and the GMTs lume looked like mustard paint. I'm not knocking them, that would be retarded, but it seems more likely that one of the salesman has an insider or is a member of one of these boards. These weren't junk but not real either.

And BTW, if you're going to try to pass your rep off as real by saying "oh, yes its real, but its old" make sure you're not wearing something that would be worth more than a new one.

  10. If it is a fake dial... I offer:

Situation D - Owner of watch first takes watch to less scrupulous watchmaker, who steals the valuable gen dial, fits a fake and tells the poor guy he can't do the repair for whatever reason...

    Anything is possible...

I am agreeing with this statement.

Phong will restore your watch with his parts, taking your parts in as "trade". So will another of the Vietnamese guys, but I forget which. I do not know enough of vintage watches to make any valid point as to the authenticity of the watch in question, but I think I am making a good point with this reference. Anything is possible.

Either way, this is a very interesting thread.

  11. Seconded... I have a date wheel overlay which is the kind that came in my 21j from Josh.

I heard that in the ETA versions they use a overlay closer to gen???

My scanner is hooked up and my overlay is currently off, so I will scan mine in if you dont get a response soon

Thanks a bunch jd. I just want to print one up and use it as a temp while i test this Sub out around the house.

  12. Initially, I hated this watch. Then, after seeing a few well-photographed samples pop up on TZ, it started to grow on me.......at least enough to encourage me to take a trip to an AD to see 1 in the flesh. But as soon as I put it on my wrist, any & all attraction vanished. Orange & green with big, honking index markers.......yuck. And putting that lightning bolt hand on this circus watch just makes things worse. Overall, the impression it left on me was even worse than the LV (which was not good). I think this model will become Rolex's next Edsel -- a great idea (to reissue the classic Milgauss) that was executed poorly (redesigning a classic to appeal to the blingy crowd instead of updating the original to maintain its classic appeal).

Did you see the GV or the regular? I stopped in 3 or for ADs and none had the new Milguass. I like the green sapphire, it looks cool in pictures, but I doubt the edge looks that green in person. Its probably like regular sapphire, which has a bluish tint that can be seen around the edge of the crystal at certain angles. When you do see it though, it looks pretty blue, almost electric.

  13. So where are people going to go? Ioffer and CQout is great for replica/counterfiet items, but ebay is better if you are looking for the real thing and know what you're doing. Its terrible for suckers, but hey what isn't?

Ebay is getting ridiculous, but it still is a fast way to get rid of anything you don't want, and you can do it in a hurry. It's pretty safe for the most part, but a rip off for sellers. Now we have to pay ebay fees, which are increasing, and paypal fees since thats going to be the only way, and ebay is going to be making all the money.

I guess it's time to go to craigslist.org.... oh wait thats owned by ebay too now....AHHHH!

  14. I just got this gen Movado SE automatic off of ebay in today. I was looking for a rep movado after viewing them at the Movado store at the mall, but there were none to be found

I then looked to ebay, and found a used one with no bids. The main thing I was looking for was automatic, and I found it in 5 minutes, this watch right here!

This is the one I was looking at in the store, and if I remember correctly, the quartz was about $1100, and the auto $1400? This I picked up for less than $300.

There are of course some minor scuffs, but I will definitely be able to buff all of it out this weekend. As for the brushed parts, I'm a little nervous, as it is not as "deep" as a rolex, so I may have to brush it and then polish it down a little bit.

It has a sapphire crystal in perfect condition, but apparently no AR, I guess they don't do that.

Inside the watch is a decorated eta 2892A2 21J movement, which I guess would be worth just a little less than I paid for the whole watch.

Here's the pics I put in the wrist check and a few more:

  15. I've had this thing for a while now, and it is pretty, but what am I supposed to do with all this stuff?

What is the purpose of it all? I know it was designed for racing, but how do you use it?

Do you guys use them for anything but telling time?

Do you think anyone else still does?

  16. Ok, I'm looking for some stuff on ebay to assist me in taking good pictures. I would like a light tent, small tripod, and some lights.

There are thousands on there, and it is completely mind boggling since I have no idea what I'm exactly looking for anyway. I don't want junk, but I don't need pro either.

I would like to spend a max of $50 shipped, in case I try it once and decide it's too much of a hassle. Maybe I can buy a tent, tripod, and then 2 simple desk lights? I have halogens in the garage, but with my ADD I'd melt the friggin light tent with those.

As for the tripod, I think thats easy, so I guess mainly I need help with a light tent.

    Thanks in advance

  17. Glad you are fixed.

I actually just got back from spending some time at ETA doing my "research"

    This doc

    https://secure.eta.ch/CSP/DesktopDefault.as...=3&tabid=28

Use the technical info, shows the stem (but not all measurements) and shows the crossreference, (which I confirmed from another cross ref chart.)

BTW before you go buying stems, I have an assortment of ETA (18 different models - 3 pieces of each total 54 stems, which we sell for $25) if that may help.

Now I'm not in to doing adverts or promo on the forum, so let's just say i do a little business in watch assortments and parts as a sideline. PM if you need anything.

    Offshore

Awesome, I was looking for that chart, thanks! Now I know for sure I'm ordering the right part for the keyless works. I saved that PDF to my hard drive. As for stems, I'm only going to get a few. I can't find that thread with the big list of parts, where did it go?

  18. LLsteve,

I'm sitting here now, looking at a 2836-2 stem. haven't checked the ETA site, but I assume they are the same. The one you have looks marginally shorter in the distance from the tip, to the first"collar", however without a measurement, it could be foreshortening in the photo.

Do you have you some callipers? If so measure the tip to collar distance (suppose you could look it up on the ETA site) and give me a yell.

Alternatively I can shoot one in the mail...PM me.

    Offshore

PS Actually, the more I look at it...if you take a ratio of the 1st section from tip, compared to the 2nd flat section, there is a difference.

    Only brake calipers around here....

It works, I reset that hooked spring and everything went great. Except it still didn't hack. So I took all of the keyless works apart, and the castle wheel wasn't on the stop lever so I fixed that too. Then I got clumsy and lost the set lever.

So now I have to order one. Found it already on jules borel, I suppose I'll get some other stuff I need while I'm shopping there, like extra stems and dial dots. Thankfully time is not an issue as my datewheel overlay hasn't even been sent out yet.

    Productive day, otherwise.

Thanks for the help and offer
