  1. Welcome and enjoy the ride. If you are still into the hobby and hanging around here in a few months I will give you a shout when I am over in your neck of the woods.
  2. Kai- Needless to say that is a stunning collection. By the way I have stems. I will send them out next week.
  3. Before everyone rags on the 47th Street guys - who do you think are some of the biggest dealers on Risti and one or two of the Rolex forums are. Even if you are not a buyer they have the best selection of automatic and higher end PAM's anywhere (including the Firenze store) and super higher end tourbillon-type watches. You may not buy them but they are fun to look at. The one thing I would also suggest is wear a gen if you have one. These guys have seen it all. At the end of the day they tend to be honest simply because they aren't going anywhere. You know where to find them when there is a problem.
  4. Great review and what a wonderful watch. So many choices these days.
  5. I love it when a plan comes together. So far so good on my end. Tell me where to go and I will show. On the watch tours I do it all the time with one or two folks when they come to visit. And I don't recommend many more than that if you want to try stuff on. In an hour and a half you can try the standard large stores (Wempe, Cellini, Tourneau, etc.), the dedicated stores (AP, Muller, Chopard, Breguet, Mont Blanc, etc.) and then finish it off haundling with the grey market guys on 47th street. The funny thing is the grey market guys always have the largest selection.
  6. With 10 trusted dealers here why would you look anywhere else. Further you can just tell them you want the second version. They were all made by one factory and there were only two versions. Are you sure you want that clear caseback?
  7. I am with you. Thomasng had one for a while. I couldn't resist and plunked one on the wrist a couple of years ago at the AD. It was heaven. The next obscure brand I want to try is the Uhrwerke.
  8. Make it easy - if you are talking about the silver dial limited edition go with version 2 which has individual serial numbers and solid caseback.
  9. There is only one UN - (to quote Le Chic) Freak out!
  10. I wonder if he is thanking us or ready to kill us. Oh wait a minute, it is his fault. he accepted. S- Needless to say congrats and much deserved. Looking forward to your visit.
  11. Great review. It is one heck of a watch. At the risk of being presumptuous could you post a pic of yours with the date set to 25. I am curious as to how far the date font is off.
  12. Just to clarify a couple of points. $7-8k is the price of a second hand one. They listed for $13k last year in SS and WG (bezel) with the most basic movement. So new is likely to be $10-11k. And my point was not that he shouldn't buy it. You should just know that if you are ever going to sell it you will likely take a loss. Now why should a "passionate" collector care? Because most "passionate" watch collectors like to have several watches. And often your taste may change. And if it does or there is simply something you like better you will want the ability to sell one to buy another (unless you are wealthy enough that it just doesn't matter of course). In my case, I do like to own several gen watches at one time but I also always want to have the capability to sell one to buy another without taking a bath. And for that reason I never buy new. Nine times out of ten you are guaranteeing yourself a 30-40% discount the next day. And in the case of brands with no respect in the resale market I will still consider it but think long and hard before doing it - passionate or not. In fairness you should have none of these concerns if you know that you will be keeping this one for life. Just remember life is long - or so we hope.
  13. Wow, that one is looking great. I have never had a big square watch. I know it is subjective but how big does this one wear. As big as a Panerai 44 or 47mm? Ap ROO? The largest rectangle I own is a Conquistador.
  14. Taken Care of. I have the same questions. It looks really good with the possible exception of the date area. Are the digits out of whack and how good is the date font?
  15. That is what we all say until we get tired of our latest rep.
  16. I like this watch as well and was thinking about it. Be forewarned that once you buy it you own it for life or are at risk for a loss when you go to sell. They listed at $12-13k. Now they are offered at $7-8k and no one is buying them at that price. It is just one of those original movement brands that gets no respect in the secondary market - ala GP, Jaeger and Chopard. There are a number of watches that I really like but I don't dare buy them as I tend to sell gens when I am bored of them.
  17. Nikos- How solid is the bezel mechanism. Is it tight? Does it click into place firmly?
  18. Actually the CG's are useless for Fiddy's. The measurements are not exactlythe same and it has a batch number rather than "reg tm" inscribed on it. It only makes sense for someone building a 6152 and no matter what you do it needs to be finished. I am sure someone will buy it. It will be the same person who has already got thousands invested into their Angelus 6152.
  19. He has offered the dial and dagger before. By the way I have a "prototype" dagger too. At least I will inscribe Panerai on mine and it is available for $24,999. The "authenticated" yet never finished cg's are a new one. Do you think I can get Panerai to finish them for me. And the Panerai Book from the 60's is a new listing as well. It should have all of 2-3 watches since Panerai was such a prolific watch maker in 1960. I have always assumed the stuff is real but the seller has takenthe $10,000 for a cup of coffee approach - it only takes one.
  20. FXR- That is brutal. CBR- If it makes you feel better it happened to me.
  21. Congrats on the new watch. I read your last thread and never understood the case button issue. I have built 3 or 4 and had never encountered a case where the button was in a different place. The movement spacers are interchangeable for 7750 and 7753 so as long as you have the spacer which goes with the movement (i.e. one which takes longer or shorter chrono pusher stems) so I would have thought it would be fine.
  22. I will take a quick shot. There is no such thing as water resistant or waterproof (or at least no real assurances) unless you have a watch properly serviced and all the seals greased. On the BR-03 if it is the one I think it is (PVD) your biggest issue is getting one with correct PVD. I don't believe the ones straight from the dealer have a good coating. Ajoesmith offered a limited run with true PVD some time ago but they are long since sold out. If you want that level of watch you will have to put out a want to buy ("WTB"). There is no fake screws issue as there is only one screw on the back (albeit somewhat out of place). The lume is what it is. There are one or two folks who will do it but I don't know of anyone who is accepting new customers who can do it. Ar is offered by a couple of sources but you will have to have the crystal taken out. And yes I would go for the ETA. Just ask whichever dealer you choose. The dealers on the forum are not here by accident. They have withstood the test of many transactions.
