  1. Actually, if you are lucky sperm you receive the BMW long before you graduate - when you get your license.
  2. I don't have the time to search and I don't speak Japanese but it is a 47mm automatic and the caseback says titanium. It is possible they stopped selling it. If you point me in the direction of the Panerai section I will show you which one I am talking about. In truth if you are tending toward Rolexes this beast is most likely not for you.
  3. If you want to go the other extreme as far as I know they are the only one offering a PAM 194 (47mm 1000m) with a titanium case. All the collector offerings are in SS. I do know at least 3-4 members including myself who would kill for that one. If you really have the opportunity to do this you should take a careful look. They do tend to have a few exclusive offerings. No one has ever matched their first runs of the 2892/3's.
  4. The cartel is not the manufacturer. The MBW version has the old seconds at nine movement but the datewheel placement is correct (sub-dials are off though) due to exactly what you mentioned - a correctly sized and angled inner bezel. I have been curious to see whether that inner bezel fits on the new seconds at 12. It is something which I would guess could be easily fixed.
  5. Now that is watch that I would buy. The half a dozen MBW's sold at 2500 Euros were beautiful but just too expensive relative to a gen. But at the the $1500 price it makes a lot more sense.
  6. Do people remember a time when well to do kids graduated high school and the parents bought the kid a Rolex. I took my kids to see Journey to the Center of the Earth. Without giving away the story when the family returns from the "journey" safe, sound and rich (of course) what do I see in the final scene? The 16 year old twerp running around wearing a Panerai, Could this be the start of a trend?
  7. Mine didn't. Then again I don't have the watch yet.
  8. It is a very pretty watch. You have to wonder why anything would be off (the date window certainly is) when both rep and gen use a 7750 movement. Still can't wait to see one though. The ti Chrono Avenger is still one of my favorite watches and this one would be a very nice SS or PVD ( ) compliment.
  9. I assume your boss knows it is a rep. If he doesn't I would like to congratulate you for having brass balls. He is going to have to ask though.
  10. You're right but the James Dowling that came to my mind was the one on the South Wales Supreme Court in the 1800's. And by the way I still want to know how you know it is his wrist. Okay, just kidding.
  11. How do you know it is James Dowling? And who is he? In truth Discovery110 never said it was his. He may be doing us the courtesy of showing us a pic under normal conditions. I just assumed it was his.
  12. Freddy- Neither are available with that exact configuration (wider on the movement side than the crown side). In the case of the Cortebert it requires a 1.5 mm which is readily available but our standard crowns are usually never more than 1.2 mm. In the case of the 1.2 to 0.9 they are not available as stock either but you can normally use a 1.2 to .9 adapter which is available. The issue is the lack of room when you have a Unitas movement in a standard PAM 44mm case. - Kruz
  13. If that is yours big congrats. It is the first new Rolex I have been interested in for quite a while. If I can get the money together I am wondering if buying the first year and sticking in a safe deposit box for my kids might be a good idea. Any thoughts?
  14. See Ziggy- It does occasionally rub off. Or maybe it is osmosis.
  15. Agreed. I have never owned a white dial rep other than the daylight (no choice on the dial) as white rep dials are far more obvious than dark one for the reasons above. The painting and number formation is nowwhere near the gen. Here is my 03 as an example:
  16. CSK- Since I am a layman as well I will take a shot and Ziggy can correct me if I got it wrong. As you probably know each stem has two sides. One side slides into the movement and allows you to wind and set the movement. The other side screws into the crown. The problem has always been that there are some movements which take a larger size stem going into the movement such that the side that screws into the crown is to wide for the crown. So what he is doing is trimming the stem to the right length if necessary and then thinning out the threaded side and rethreading it so it will fit into a smaller hole (the crown). The real life examples above are: Cortebert movements often take a 1.5 mm stem. Our usual hand wind crowns take a 1.2 mm stem. So unless you can thin down and rethread the crown side you can't use our normal crowns. 1.2 to 0.9mm - Standard Unitas movements take a 1.2 mm stem. However most of the gen crowns that we bought through our group buy were originally for automatics which have a threaded hole of 0.9mm. Often this can be remedied if using a smaller movement by buying an adapter which screws onto the 1.2mm side and leaves you with a new 0.9 mm threaded end. However in the case of the Unitas movements they are so big that there is no room in the case for an adapter. Ergo you need the revised stem in order to use SS gen crowns that folks bought with handwind movements.
  17. Ziggy- Those stems are a work of art. Can't wait to see them on their respective watches. Logan- The case tube is from a Jimmy case. It is identical to the case tube on a gen case. Fxrandy- Knowing this project was forthcoming and it would allow for the use of the gen automatic crowns on handwinds I did hold back a few crowns for this purpose. The remaining crowns will be offered with stems and possibly case tubes. No worries though as I will make a general announcement when they are ready for prime time.
  18. My pleasure and don't forget to toast Terry.
  19. I will but it won't be for a month or two. Somehow my watches are all over the place but I hope to have them all back by the end of the Summer.
  20. Great collection. Wear them well. On a humorous note, now I know where those boxes come from. Just got it and am loving it.
  21. Irrespective of the generous member who did this I cannot think of a more deserving individual. Just promise me that you will use that first glass to toast Hot Terry.
  22. Here is my answer - it doesn't matter which way you go. Whether you sell all your reps and go with gens only, buy more reps or even sell everything and conclude you only want to wear Swatches (okay that may be overdoing it - ) the most important thing is continuing the shared experience with other members. Anyone who has been doing this for a few years has been through all the phases. Changing it up keeps it fresh. I will say that if you go the selling the rep route think long and hard before selling the ones with a good amount of sweat equity into them. As a number of folks have pointed out it is far easier to replace a gen than a highly modded rep (assuming you didn't piss away the money in the first place ). And the other question I would ask if you do go the all gen route is why another Rolex? If you are really looking for one other gen try a different brand. Just go secondhand so you can resell it at a similar price if you get bored of it.
  23. CBR- Great post. Bravo, for having the cajones to take apart your brand new rep. - Kruz
