  1. Beautiful watch. Wear it well. I will ultimately give in. It is just a matter of when.
  2. Basically, you only want this dial if you have the movement. And if I remember correctly this one requires a titanium case.
  3. Gentlemen, please act like it. Back to the topic at hand, do peope agree that the one with white dial and grey sub-dials is the most accurate version. Has anyone actually received one yet?
  4. Good deal guys. It is always better to meet folks in the flesh. We may have to take a shot at a GTG in NY in the next month or so.
  5. Dalay- Absolutely apples and oranges. The differences are huge. You have a true Franken with gen dial, hands and proper movement and all the good things that go with it. And as is usually the case it initially cost upwards of 25-30% of a genuine. And your watch is rarer than the gen. This rep is nowhere near its class but also costs 5% of a gen. I have always lusted for your watch but didn't have the coin at the time. Wear that one well. Ubi- Which one did you buy?
  6. Theo- Thanks for the info. I couldn't resist checking against the gen. What do you think of the height of the 12 o'clock sub dial. Methink it still looks a tad too high but I know you know these babies well.
  7. Working on a franken project for an automatic. Does anyone know if there is one sandwich crystal (from one of the ultimates - 104, etc.) which achieves better date magnification than the others. I am trying to fit into a gen marina bezel. I used a 199 crystal on my 24 but I assume the sub crystal will not fit in a standard marina bezel. The watchmaster combination is just that iota too big on this one so I am looking to get as good a sandwich as possible. Thanks in advance for any help. - Kruz
  8. Mickey- The incurable issue on the rep is simply the alignment on the crown and pushers. Original is a base movement with chrono module slapped on top. As a result the crown will sit lower on the side of the case than the pushers. Won't happen on the 7750 where all components are basically on a parallel plane. Someone more knowledgeable than I can compare the sub-dial layout. I still think it is a great rep. Someone else can comment on the date area. Kruz
  9. I suspect it is a function of whether the person wearing the watch feels it defines them (i.e. I own it and so I am cooler) rather than simply wearing it because they can afford it and appreciate it. In real life I have never encountered the whole rep/gen issue other than to occasionally see a good rep and have the personal pride of knowing I know. I would never say anything though and I certainly have never seen anyone else say anything. Then again, I don't wear Rolexes very often. Plenty of really nice people wear them but every sniveling wannabe also aspires to own one. And the funny thing is that if I had to prioritize what I like best in my collection my order would be 1. Franken 2. Gen and 3. Rep.
  10. It is a sticker but depending on the particular watch and how it was assembled it can look really good. I was satisfied with mine but I have heard there can be air bubbles. Here is one rep with real wood but it was a one-off from the legendary but now retired RepAustria.
  11. I am assuming they will be a better version of the palp. Well made and designed to slide right into the rep case tube so they are no fuss no muss. Worst case you are adjusting the lever slightly which can be readily done by anyone who has a file. Great project T.
  12. Panera- It may work for 7750's but you are losing all the other automatics. My latest Asian 7750 (not on a PAM though) took a 0.9. It kind of doesn't matter as there is enough room for a stem adapter in any case. I do hope we don't end up with only 1.2's.
  13. You are right on both counts. Unitas = 1.2mm. 7750 = 0.9. You can also us 1.2mm on 7750's. But most other automatics take 0.9 only (2836, 2893/2), etc. Best of luck with the project. Looking forward to seeing the results.
  14. There are several things wrong with this. First, I am never in favor of raising the profile of the rep world. Second, taunting gen owners is not constructive either. Finally, stealing pictures is not condoned either. Suffice it to say that we will be discussing it later today here and with our brethren over at RG. Out of curiousity, can anyone give the 3 line version as to what the poster wrote and the follow-up conversation is on the loop.
  15. Virg- They look great. VDB does fabulous work and is always very helpful. Wear those babies well.
  16. Kind of says it all. This particular watch is in the realm of fantasy.
  17. Yahoo! Really nothing else to say if it is true.
  18. Wow, beautiful watch. Loving that bezel. Have they solved the rehaut issues from past rolexes or does it look conical.
  19. It is a great combination. I do love that dial. If you gone to the trouble to get a better datewheel than contact one of the dealers and see if they will sell you the crystal from a 199. It is AR coated but combined with the new datewheel gets it to 99% of gen.
  20. Lello- You should always persevere. Your datewheels are priceless - especially as we see ever more expensive reps and people doing franken projects. It is true that some movements take aftermarket datewheels better than others but at the end of the day it is always worth the effort. And check your PM's. All the best, Kruz-
  21. Congratulations on your Hybrid 106. I meant to post these earlier. 170 has bezel surrounds on the hour markers. 106 doesn't
  22. Looking very good. Wear it well.
  23. All weekend on this one. t hands are in the mail to finish this one:
  24. V- I like your thinking. I go the opposite way though with the spare dial and hands approach. And I am still debating the best use of the upcoming wonderful CG's.
