  1. Actually have put it aside until I deal with the crowns. But I will continue research thereafter. Very frustrating as Finepics had the perfect person but they will no longer do it for watches. I think the next step is to find out the exact coating and bead blasting process from Finepics and then go find someone new. And in the meantime I am staring at the actual PVD crowns so I know how to match them up. In the interim, my 28 which I was dumb enough to drop on the street languishes. Aargh, so close to finishing the fearsome foursome and yet so far.
  2. admin gave a good explanation. Practically speaking I concluded a while ago that every once in a while you have to actually go through the various sections you are interested in to make sure you didn't miss anything.
  3. The curious question is whether the price has risen so dramatically to the factirues or is there just a very limited supply so that it is whatever the market will bear. By the way if anyone is interested in organizing a group buy on the 17j Swiss movements let me know and I will give you the details. I will even buy a couple. You can buy those for $175 or less and even with $100 or so for movement swap you will be way ahead of the game. I would do it but I am already long the cost of a bunch of crowns.
  4. I have no idea about the price increase but the days of readily available ETA movements are coming to a close. ETA is rationalizing its line as we speak. The 7753 will be a thing of the past. In terms of what to do here are your options: Get the Asian 7750 serviced and you will have a well running movement. Ziggy has serviced many of the newer 7750 movements and last I heard he has never had one back for repair Buy your own Swiss 7750 and either buy the Swiss hands if your dealer can get them or a skilled watch smith can fit the hands. Ziggy has done that for me on many watches. He is doing it on my HBB and Aquatimer as we speak..
  5. You were smart to buy when you did. At $1,700 there are other gens I would rather buy - or better yet - reps of Aquatimer, 7753 196, Swiss 2893 GMT and a Pilot 3717 to boot. Don't give up on reps. You may not like the prices but they are getting better and better.
  6. Well, actually I haven't ordered it from him yet. Still waiting for the response to my PM but I will.
  7. That is the problem with bling watches. The guys is not a jerk for noticing. He is a jeweler. You either look/act the part in which case he is wondering what else he can sell you or its a fake (at least in his mind). He is an insecure jerk for spreading it around rather than asking you directly if he really cared. But you asked for it.
  8. Dude, its hockey (unless you are from Canada of course). Although I must confess that I grew up with the Bruins in the Orr, Espo, Cheevers and Sanderson era. Heck, players didn't wear helmets and even Eddie Giacomo on the Rangers wasn't even wearing a facemask. When men were men... But I do feel your pain if you have been a rabid supporter. Pick a new sport with a team in Nashville. But the real moral of the story is not to get too attached. These athletes are professional and they are there for the money.
  9. They have. Look at new 199 and Arktos with correct date font and magnification. They are doing it in the context of reruns of older models and new ones coming out. They are also adding a mediocre AR coat.
  10. Let someone know who the dealer is and they may be able to help. PM me if you don't want to publicly reveal who it is.
  11. There is nothing wrong with revealing the dealer. For some dealers 3 weeks would not overly concern me. For others I would be wondering what is happening. For some dealers this is their full time job. For others it is more of a sideline. The good news and one of the reasons you presumably hang out here and utilize the resources is that in the end you are dealing with someone who has done many transactions with the membership and it is highly unlikely that you will be stiffed. But if you are being taken advantage of then the membership wants to know. By the way I completely agree with your once a week protocol when a piece is delayed.
  12. Although I have not bought one as I can't get over the fact that I still don't own a Ferrari, it is probably the best PAM rep out of the box. And everyone from Ziggy to Paneristi have commented on the quality of the casework. Of course, staying away from models with a date make it that much closer. I am partial to the new one with the Silver logo and red accents though.
  13. I suspect he may be saying more than that. That is a beautiful watch. I suspect you will keep that one away from your "bulldozer tests".
  14. RT- Just gave in. Ordered the black one. I may just have to swap my Chieftang crystal from the white one though. IMHO, the VC Overseas has been one of the most elegant sport watches for quite a period of time. That is a fabulous rep of a $7,000 watch. Gerald Genta is a genius. Don't know why he can't get his own watches right.
  15. Now that is the spirit. By the way the gen rubber is definitely worthwhile. Makes the fish the perfect beach watch.

  17. Very impressive. Good luck with the case. If you can't find one reasonably go with the MBW case, 2846 Slow beat, Watchmeister's datewheel gen crystal, crown and tube and beg Ubi for one of his inserts.
  18. Too funny. The fact that you have been here a while and had the same idea suggested to you by several members should tell you something. Know what it should tell you? You're not listening. With all the money you have spent on reps I can't believe you haven't tried an Asian movement PAM. I think you are just scared that you will like it. Then when you have been won over by the PAM's, pick up a Cousteau (truly an amazing rep) and an HBB. They grow on you.
  19. Welcome. Always a pleasure to come across a new member who spends the time to get acquainted with the goings on before throwing themselves to the wolves. Best of luck with the project.
  20. In the real world people know instantly what an Omega or Rolex is. VC is another level of brand. The gen retails for close to $7,000. The nice thing about VC's is people who know watches will know exactly what it is without having seen too many. Others will have no idea. And the bracelet is really nice. You will never get called out on the new VC. The liklihood of you seeing it on someone else's wrist is very low.
  21. My mistake. I had thought the steelfish was smaller. Then definitely go with the IWC.
  22. Apples and oranges. Different sizes and very different statements. Breitling is an excellent non-chron rep of an $1,800 watch. Cousteau is an excellent rep of a $7,000 IWC chrono complete with a well working inner rotating bezel. Now you tell me which is cooler. I would also add that I received two compliments from strangers the first day I wore it. One knew what it was and expressed admiration (guy). The other comment was from a woman who just thought it was a really nice sports watch. I do like my Chrono Avenger with original dial and Swiss movement and latest accurate BCE but if I had to choose one of the three Cousteau would win hands down. But Cousteau is a big 44mm.
  23. Well I am hoping is going to reveal a couple of other "miracles" shortly.
  24. I am loving the Cousteau Divers. That and the 3717 are fabulous watches and sporty. The rubber strap on the Cousteau is of far better quality than the gen Breitling rubber strap I have on right now. But the Steelfish and Cousteau are very different watches both in terms of size and form.
