  1. Thanks for this post. My purple DSN 036 dial situation has caused me significant brain damage (loss of rep wear time as well). I've been tossing around your solution for quite some time and seeing the result has pushed me to start the project.
  2. DSN came out with a new 005 a couple months back and it was heavily reviewed on this board. Do a search and there should be a couple threads with 20+ replies and a lot of pics. Short answer, yes, flaws and probably not the best choice if you're really flaw concious.
  3. Is DSN still using EMS for standard shipping? EMS was standard with all of my DSN orders in the past. But I recall seeing a recent offer where he noted 20USD extra for EMS shipping, otherwise just regular international shipping... Is this the case now for all of his orders?
  4. No worries southcoast, was referring to another post... I am generally interested in hearing what others' takes are on those terms you mentioned, but I think you're on the money.
  5. So now that we've indirectly criticized a continent/nation, well-known woman and respected member of this board...I am curious to hear follow up on southcoast's and kruzer's posts...thanks.
  6. Use his gmail...getting replies back generally within 12 hrs.
  7. This has turned into a lengthy debate on other forums, I believe one even conducted a poll. About a third said it 'mee' and two thirds 'may'. I have heard swiss watch makers and ADs (stateside and in europe) say it with 'mee', but its rare to hear it. For the millions Omega must pay in Bond films, you'd figure they'd insist on an exacting standard for product placement. But then again even some of Omega's product videos will have more of a 'may' sound to them. I also think the swiss butcher words worse than brits...so it could be a bastardized swiss offshoot. This is one instance where both are probably right.
  8. I decided to pull the trigger on DSN's 104 and it was being packed up/shipped hopefully today.
  9. The shipping and service at panatime always blows me away too. Very fast, great emails, well packaged.
  10. David posted his April 08 upgrade photos on 'bucket
  11. FYI- David is in the process of fixing the shorter seconds hand and will be updating with photos in the dealer section when complete. He didnt give an expected time on completion... So with a couple mm's of lume at '9', you'll be in great shape with DSN's rep. Has anyone emailed about this fix? It sounded like he got feedback to fix the seconds hand from a few folks, maybe he'll help on this improvement...
  12. PAM aficionado wandering over into Omega territory looking for help... Where should I go for a quality leather strap to pair with a PO? Thanks
  13. That's one watch where you're allowed to get away with crappy pics and its still jawdropping..Congrats
  14. Do not hesitate to buy anything from watches24seven.com, as they are professional, great communicators and baby their PAMs. Its a husband and wife that run the business and Bruce's knowledge is tops.
  15. triplehd, I believe the gen 253 came with a black carbon fiber strap and the rubber comfort/dive strap. You might also want to consider springbar screw/tube combos (search under River, he has some because I just ordered), as my 253 lugs stripped easily after 9 months of frequent strap changes. A cheap place with ultra quick service to pick a lot of these things up...screws, tubes, screwdrivers, straps etc...is panatime.com
  16. Fish, Is the 'new' DSN dial you posted in your pics above a current project of his? If so, do you know when the dial will be available? (as in hopefully right now? ) I poked around his photobucket a little bit and couldnt find... Thanks
  17. I like the BSD (big swingin' d*ck) approach as well...something like.... "Yeah, I picked this thing up in Hong Kong while I was securing financing for my latest venture capital deal..." Or maybe the People Helpin' People approach..."There was this skinny guy in Shanghai who looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks selling these. For the price of a bowl of rice, I figured why not help him out..."
  18. On DSN's 104....Is the short mark at "9" something a modder could address? Same question with the short seconds hand in the recessed dial...are there hands out there to swap for accuracy? Case back accuracy doesn't worry me as much. If the dial issues are simple solutions, I'd be happy to own this rep and pay for those mods.
  19. Fellow Chicagoan here, and thank you to regulator for giving us a line to good services in the city. Out of respect for the watch repairman, maybe some edits should be made and details just given through PM...just my 2 cents. If this thread is monitored it may be an easy way happen upon a lot of our hobbies. Maybe someone can bounce this to an admin and we can get their call...just my .02
  20. Thank you for sharing Shundi...very interesting and incredible pics.
  21. On Trustys site there's a listing of various prices associated with what I am assuming are different watchsmiths? Does each specialize in a make/model? Curious to hear your insights, explanations, experience with this service.... Thanks.
  22. If you are stuck using a regular screwdriver you can also put a small piece of scotch tape over the screw/lug. It will prevent scratching in the immediate area around the screw and the screwdriver pops right through the tape to the head of the screw. Easy cleanup as well. Poor man's simple solution, but useful.
  23. Hi Shura, I dont do mods and am not looking at DSNs photobucket right now. But I do own a gen PAM63 and would say that by no means do the hands look 'glossy' or appear to have any shine to them. The matte black finish seems to be an accurate description. If DSN has pics, please send me your email address and I'll give you close ups of my gen to help you get the best match. Fat Tail
  24. I thought this was a really good discussion and beautiful close up pics....enjoy http://panerai.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-409431/fi-717/ Sorry, hyperlink not working (trying to figure out why) But copy/paste into browser does...its worth it! Edit 2: I am not especially web savvy...the link shown was copied as shown in my browser(http://panerai.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-409431/fi-717/) If anyone knows how I can modify this address so that the hyperlink works, please let me know so I can fix...thanks. Maybe its because its a link to a blog?
  25. What are your thoughts on this....Would I be able to email Josh or Andrew and hit them up for just an 036 dial? If I can get that my next concern is this...would the dial be too big/small for DSN's case? The 36 to 177 conversion is sounding appealing right now....
