Mix And Match (noob Mariner with MBK = Gr8 Sub!)
bertieng replied to danzeman22's topic in The Rolex Area
Don't you need to mod the CG on the MBW? Or is it already up to the gen. spec? -
What are the parts needed to transform the 1570 into the 1575GMT? Calling in the Rollie experts to help. Thanks.
-
Have found this dial on the bay, is it correct? I have some concern on the gilt marking of the 3,6,9 markers, are the lines supposed to be printed like this? Any Rollie experts can confirm? Thanks.
-
Thanks for the info. Finding a 1030 stem is no difficulty, but now if the thread is 110 then it is super troublesome since it is not standard Swiss size at all - either 90 or 120. I don't even think there is any adaptor that has the transformation to 110. BTW, is the Tudor and Rolex 8mm Bervet share the same appearance and construction? If yes, then the Tudor crown would be the better choice.
-
Anyone got the idea what is the correct stem for the 8mm crown to be fitted into the 6538 with the cal. 1030 movement? It seems that the thread size is even beyond the 120 caliber. Thanks.
-
Anyone got the idea what should be the correct Tropic for the vintage 6538? Does it share the same as the 5512/3313 - Tropic 19? Thanks.

Beautiful watch indeed. But up till today I am still very reluctant to get any of the APROO no matter if it is MBW or whatsoever simply becasue the flaw of the subdial arrangement is just too obvious. Any AP guy can spot it as fake immediately. I don't mean to offend anybody, it is purely my personal problem. Still hope one day the correct running second at 12 will come up, like they did it with the running second at 6 for the Daytona.

Dewitt Academia Chrono Review - First off the block
bertieng replied to rangers158's topic in Other Brands Area
If you go to the DeWitt official site, then you can compare clearly. - Hour numerial markers should be flat - Wrong fonts for the "CHRONOGRAPH" - Windmill blades on subdial are slightly shorter on gen. But as said, these will be hardly noticable since you won't easily come across of seeing a gen. DeWitt on the street. -
Dewitt Academia Chrono Review - First off the block
bertieng replied to rangers158's topic in Other Brands Area
Great review and pictures. At last something that's most exciting than the Sub/APROO/HBB.......... The watch looks of excellent build quality almost second to none. Despite some flaws still obvious on the dial/subdial, but seems of no big issues, afterall how many gen. Dewitt you will ever encounter on the street anyway. Interesting to see the caseback screws are of some kind of special design, wonder how to remove the back to take out the movement. 100% on my list for the next collection. -
Thanks for the explanation. In this case, is it possible to tranform a 1575 into a 1575GMT. What parts are needed to be swapped out? I think it is easier to get the 1575, but so far I have none of sale for 1575GMT. Thanks.

I saw this claim in one of the 1655 auction on the bay. They even opened the case back to show the movement which clearly specified cal. 1570. "Movement is the 26 jewel automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570, which is adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer." Is this true? Always thought the 1655 should be equipped with the cal. 1575. Is the cal. 1570 also a GMT movement?
-
Saw this in the bay, does it really worth for the asking price???? Milgauss The green sapphire really cost so much.........
-
Hi Freedy, is this the 5019? Picture taken from TTK's recent offering. Does the dial look correct, I have no idea. What should be the correct ref. for gen. crown, crystal and bracelet/endlinks?
-
Thanks for the info. "smooth, unpainted steel bezel, "normal" bezel" - what is unpainted? Isn't the Milgauss supposed to have smooth polished steel bezel?
-
Has anyone ever got a hand onto the MBW Milgauss? How is the quality and accuracy? Milgauss is such a hot topc now in the gen. circle. Price is unbelievably high considering it is just a simple wtach with no other fucntions at all, not even with a date.

Got the crytsal back. Overall effect is great except the lip marks are quite signifcant on the rim. It measures 2mm wide , and there are brown marker paints on it not even removable by white spirit.
-
Thanks. I have the PAM029 powered by ETA2893-2, but the hour hand is not be adjustable independently, is this correct? It is clear that the GMT hand is not stacked above the hour hand here. PAM029 ETA2893-2

Not sure if this topic has been discussed already. What is the correct way of setting up the GMT Maste II - Bezel, Hour and the 24 Hour Hands. It seems that there are quite a number of different opinion, but what is the correct? It looks quite silly if you are wearing one and have the worng settings completely if the true function of the GMT only acts purely as a cosmetic role. Thanks.

The RSC did a few of my bracelets already. No watch was attached. As long as you tell them which link to be taken out they will do it. At least in my case.
-
Anyone tried to remove the bezel ring from the MBK Sub for insert/pearl change? Is it an easy pop off not like the current CN Subs which even with a hammer it won't come off. And the MBK Sub accept gen. inserts? Thanks.
-
If you have a gen. bracelet, go the the RSC, they will do it for you free of charge.

Best vintage Rolex? Newbie looking for help...
bertieng replied to seadweller3's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Your best bet will be the MBK versions. But bear in mind mod works and gen. parts are still in need to give you a reasonably good looking vintage. In this case money counts for all. Who sells? This has been discussed widely already, try to search for this topic. Good luck. -
Why replace a stock MBW DRSD movement with a "slow beat" movement?
bertieng replied to earnout's topic in The Rolex Area
I doubt the dealers know very much. As I got my 2846 ex ETA factory and it doesn't hack, so it is not likely the CN factories will take the pain to dissemble the movements and put in the hacking lever to get this function working. Simply too much work and manpower is needed. They won't care if the watch hacks or not hack, what the heck does this concern them. -

bertieng replied to earnout's topic in The Rolex Area
ETA2846 is not a hacking movement as the hacking lever is missing. So you cannot mimic the c.1570 even though the beat rate is close at 21600. Honestly I can't really see the difference of the sweeping second movement between 2836 and 2846 from my naked eyes, I actually have both on hand side by side for comparison, perhaps it may be better off to stick with the 2836-2 in view of the built quality as well the presence of hacking function over the 2846. -
Confirmed it is not hacking becasue I dissembled it and the hacking lever is missing.
