  1. Is David a modifier only? //Cheers
  2. Greetings, I am starting to research my next purchase and this time I might get one of the Rolexes. I really like the look of the vintage Rolex Daytonas, more importantly the unusal red faced pieces. After reading the write ups to my understanding the newer Daytonas with the seconds running at 6 are pretty bad with added parts that can't be replaced? Is that the extent of this? Are the vintage versions the way to go and if someone has some, new or old white white or red face, please post some pics. //Cheers
  3. What is happening to those Avs after they beat up on Dallas? :-(
  4. I do miss the summers. I try to go back as often as I can but with a young family it is hard. We visited 1999, 2001, and lastly 2002. Spent my school days in Savedalen! //Pete
  5. Svensk som lever i Dallas sedan 15 ar tillbaka! (Goteborg) //Peter
  6. I have been into the scene for about a year now and I have read, and read, and then read some more. To date I have "invested" in 6 reps of various qualitites. I think the most important tip I can give that rings true with what most people post about here is the fact that first pick your dealer, then your watch. My experience tells me that if you find a good dealer with a good heart, they usually care about their products and care about your well being. At first, this email waiting game for me drove me crazy until I found someone that had a great response time and shipped fast with no delays. Also, the first reps I bought had small problems and even though they exchanged them for me, that costs more money to ship back and forth and they still came back with problems or quality issues. Also, I had to wrestle with the fact that I am not made of money and watch collecting is an addicting sport. Within a six month period I have spent around $1750 on watches of various movments. My wife is about to kill me. I think you have to decide for yourself if you can handle a watch breaking on you in six months after spending $650 on a swiss ETA? I made the decision to first learn a little about the less expensive movements and then go up. I think for the money the 21J is a great product coupled with the fact that most dealers use the same case and material now and the only difference is movement. I have two of the old Asian 7750 and they work like a charm for me. Decide for yourself if you want to manually hand wind every morning about 25 turns to get it going? Personally, I had to get a winder for my watches because it drove me nuts having to open the clasp on my Panerais and set the time every time my automatic went to sleep. Good Luck!
  7. Ahhh... For some reason the top screw is not screwing down correctly. Can I find another one of these at the local Home Depot or where do i find one? Can I somehow re-thread the one I have? //Cheers!
  8. Thanks for the tip. I grinded off a little bit of the guard and now if I push the clasp toward the crown and just hold it on without inserting the screws, it is tight as hell. However, now it seems that the screws are a little bit too long and just doesn't screw down all the way. I took off a very small amount and it should be perfect but now i am almost looking for some way to add a plastic nut inside the crown to hold it tight and allow for the screws to be tightened even harder. Are the two screws different sizes and does each screw go inside its own hole? Ideas?
  9. Greetings, I have had a wonderful Panerai flyback for about 3 months now and I have noticed the clasp that holds down the crown is a little loose. I don't think it's a real big deal since the wrist pushes it back but after wearing my new Daylight for the first time today this clasp is tight and snaps very snug onto the crown making it "feel very tight" and perfect. I got the two PAM's from different dealers and I understand quality and build is probably different but shouldn't there be an easy way to fix this clasp? I was thinking there should be a way to "bend" it but to do that I would probably remove it first and this poses another problem as i don't understand the pins holding this stuff down? No real "give" or spings in these pins. Ideas?
  10. Thanks for the response, however I am seeing more and more dealers offering the same case on many watches with only movement difference. Is this a trend perhaps? //Cheers
  11. I'd like to get some info on this as well. The general consensus I try to understand is if a 75% cost difference between a 21J and a 2836 for example, is worth the quality difference? I mean, if I get a 21J and it lasts me 10 years I am all for it. Are there other reliability issues with the 21J? //Cheers
  12. They have been traveling for quite some time now and I just received three emails in a row from them. They are usually great with correcting problems as they helped me out ASAP. They will treat you right if you give them a chance. Hopefully you hear from them today since they are back.
  13. Thanks for all the responses! I feel like a little dummy but everything made real good sense now. Thanks for the PM's. Chrono apparently works perfect for 24 hours straight.. Now I know to turn that bad boy off... //Cheers
  14. Thanks for the responses. I am 99.9% sure this is the 7750 but if anyone thinks something else, please let me know. Second, to the first poster, on your 1950, what does the top right do and the bottom right? I have messed around with these and now if I press both, nothing happens. However, if I open the "clasp" (not sure of correct wording) it seems that the seconds stops and the bottom "resets" the entire watch? Cheers!
  15. Greetings, I am fairly new to the "industry" but have been lurking on the boards for quite some time although recent here since the "switch". I recently did my first three rep purchases and I am kind of lost. I purchased two watches from a dealer I felt most comfortable with. The communication was great and response time was pretty good. I have come to the conclusion that a two-three business day response is normal. I bought my first rep about a month ago, a low asian grade Bvlgari Diagono which I think looked good in reality. It was inexpensive but I think the look was good and I bought it. When it arrived, it had been stuck in customs for about three weeks but made it through. I picked it out of the packaging and put it on and the first thing I noticed was that the strap was so short. Not that I am a huge person or anything but the strap was all the open until the last little hole. Is this just the way it is? At first, I inspected the watch for quality and it looked and weighed good for the money. There was a little bit of scraping on the side of the buttons but acceptable. (Gold was shining through) Second, I asked myself does the date actually work? Well, it looks like it did but not by opening the screw to the one step as normal but instead clicking the top right button. Is this normal? I emailed my dealer and they indicated this was incorrect and they would replace it. No big deal and I guess I'll wait for a replacement? Second, I ordered my more expensive watches, a 7750 Daylight for my brother and I was offered a great deal on a 1950 flyback with Lemania manual movement. I jumped on them both and today they Flyback arrived after only 5 days. I inspected the beautiful Panerai and at first nothing moved. I opened the screw and started to dial the watch to the correct time and then I thought I was supposed to wind the watch? Well, nothing happened again. I turned it over and I looked at the beautiful interior. To me, this looks like the regular 7750 movement. I will try to attach my amatuer pics of the two but if someone can guide me, I would appreciate it. I am not sure if I should be disappointed or happy since I got this watch for a great price but still isn't communication key? Like the first watch, the band is short. There are two "strap holds" on this watch and do most of you just cut off the second one? Again, I am a normal size guy and I will never even have to fold any of the remainder strap into the second "holder. Finally, I can understand that there are no instructions sent with the watches but I am not sure what the functions are. The top right button starts some kind of movement and the bottom left stops the watch completely. Can someone give me the crash course? Thanks,
  16. Thank you so much for all the info!
  17. Greetings, I have been reading around for about a year now on the old board and then the new board and I jsut don't get all the Panerai numbers. I tried to search for posts that describes some of this more in detail but even visiting the official Panerai website I can't nail it down. Why is it that for example some people refer to the original Panerai Luminor Chrono Daylight and some people only refer to it by the PAMS196 number? Does it change the number when a differnt strap is attached? Also, I just received my first flyback and some refer to this model as the Flyback 1950 PANS40 and on the Panerai website it details only as the PAM 212. Cheers!
  18. Thanks for everyone's input! //Cheers!
  19. Thank you both.. That was easy. Away we go! //Cheers!
  20. Greetings, I have never purchased a watch with the manual Lemania movement and I am not too sure how they compare to the 7750 that I have? I tried to search for Lemania but people mostly just comment that they are reliable. Does this movement require winding every day and do they mostly keep time pretty good? Any info sure would be appreciated. //Cheers!
  21. Greetings, I would just like to drop a little note introducing myself for a second time on this "new" board. I was like most other newbies about a year ago, incredibly ignorant and did not read and educate myself before posting the first question: "Who has the best Panerai daylight 196". In fact, the more I think about when I first joined the other board I am thinking how often people like myself caused members to just roll their eyes and go on. Either way, after reading and reading I started to get more familiar with this new hobby and what it is all about. I have learned and incredible amount of information in the last 6 months and it is just amazing to me that I didn't even know what a movement was a year ago. I am still learning about all this and some things are still confusing but I think I am starting to get more and more of the slang. Yes, I call it slang because to a newbie some of the words used are just making me do search after search. I will post a review about my first 2 replicas in about 2 weeks. Cheers!
