siesta181 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Right... I only came to appreciate the 028A when I saw of one (owned by one of our moderators) who have just had his lumed by The Zigmeister. SO i went off on a whirlwind quest to build one. Then out of the blue DSN decided to offer em. Case closed. So here we are. Thanks to those who helped DSN re-create this. I have a LEO DW and a PVD T-crown on the way. All i need now is a PAV 99 looking strap and I'll be set. Cheers siesta181
Drulee Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Sexy! At first I didn't like the no seconds at "9" thing, but is a very nice watch. DSN sure makes it hard for one to stay [censored] at him.
coolfire Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Without sec@9 makes PAMs even sexier, imho... Really sweet watch... had the opportunity to try it on too, courtesy of siesta181... and i must admit, it is a beauty!
dadog13 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 that's a really nice looking combination - love that gator strap...is that a Cajun gator?
capice Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 the combination works great...but I am really not a cyclopsfan
fishgodeep Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Great looking 28A - DSN's PVD looks really good!! As I've said - I thinks DSN has turned in the goods this time!! Enjoy FGD
TK471 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Awesome. These are awfully close out of the box.
siesta181 Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 Its on a Cajun. One of the best Gator man in da biz.
tanya Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Jesus I want one. But I have to wait until months end. Killing me
sssurfer Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 This watch is incredible! Wonderful! Awesome! Gorgeous! I see that DSN also corrected his PVD coating for this model, making it a little shinier like the gen. He also improved his cyclops. It does not look on the pics, but I know it as well. I agree: a datewheel with a font a little fatter, and a better crown, and this is a watch that you might proudly wear at a 'risti GTG. Many many congrats!
Chronus Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 How does this compare to the original EL ones from years ago ? Only differences I can say without seeing them side by side would be: -Poor PVD on EL version -EL version has decorated movement -EL version needs better cyclops? For both; -need genuine crown; -need datewheel. How do the two dials compare? and the caseback engraving? The hands/lume? CG?
sssurfer Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Hi Chronus, you are correct on all your remarks, about both the old EL version and this new one from DSN. The EL version (that I actually own) needed a better cyclops, and that is why I made "my" cyclops for the 027 and 028. The DSN version has a cyclops that is almost identical to my cyclops. The DSN version is better for: PVD coat Cyclops Date font (even if a fatter font would have even been better) Lume (both for the color in daylight, that is correct for tritium, and the lume in the dark) Serial number on the back (it is from a gen) Crown (even if not 100% correct, it is thicker than EL crown. What a shame, it looks thinner than it actually is because of too bevelled edges). The EL version was better for: Length of the seconds hand Decorated rotor (but the text was incorrect because of misspelled "OFFICNE" PANERAI, so this is sort of a tie). Under any other respect they show no significant differences to my eyes.
dluddy Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 The Cajun gator looks sweet on this I have one on my 232 and they are very nice straps
dadog13 Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 on the DSN version the PR scale is recessed just like on the GEN - EL's model came with a flat PR scale, correct? I read a comment made by babola about this model, he said that finally the second hand was done just like on the GEN - correct placement of the "dot" on the second hand...correct?
Jkay Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 HI .. Im Jkay and I hate PAMs .. I know .. "stone him", etc ... but I have to say that I love this watch. I've only been around a couple months, so who/what is DSN ? I might just get on the list for one of these.
Mickey Padge Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 The dealers name is Davidsenjpn, in the Accessories section..... http://www.rwgforum.com/accessories-f199.html

I read a comment made by babola about this model, he said that finally the second hand was done just like on the GEN - correct placement of the "dot" on the second hand...correct? It depends on how you define recessed. The PR scale does not have the Hobnail texture making it appear recessed on the EL Dial. It is hard to capture in a photo. I can't tell if the DSN dial has a recessed PR scale and suspect it might just be the same effect with no hobnail texture It does appear the DSN got the correct length on the Seconds hand with the dot in the right place. The EL variants had too short of a tip from the dot forward
Mickey Padge Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 The dial on my DSN 027a is definitely recessed, if that is of any help Here is one of the images from my thread, cropped...... You can see the light catching the edge of the recessed area, it is very visible when you look at the watch
Jkay Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 So I looked at the DSN page for this watch and I still love it ... someone school me on it, tho .. what makes this rep worth 2x the price I paid for my DSSDv5? Is this watch modded by hand from a base model? I see it has (i think) real tritium numerals?
dluddy Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 It mostly has to do with the movement. A Swiss 2892 with the Soprod Power Reserve Module accounts for a lot of the cost.
sssurfer Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Also in the gen the recessed PR gauge looks due to a gap in the hobnail texture: It shows better in the 028B that lacks the white border around the PR gauge: ...And yes, in the EL 027 the PR was not recessed, while in the DSN 027 it is correctly recessed. But both the EL and DSN 028 have it correctly recessed. About the seconds hand: even the gens show some variability, but to my eyes the longer EL hand, with the dot placed more outwards, looks a little more accurate. Here are two gens:
sssurfer Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 what makes this rep worth 2x the price I paid for my DSSDv5? 'cos PAM are 2x better than Rolex.
