maxman Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 The "simple watch" Is a good thing Mike
mbjoer Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Nice. Hopefully some good VC (and PP, Breguet and Lange) reps will come of this trend.
Demsey Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 What kind of prat would spend $540 on a shirt? Ken? What could you do, say, for a dozen sans the DV label? Same quality.
freddy333 Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Might be simple but it's a $14K watch Problem?
valerian Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Nice ad. I like the somber mood. Might be simple but it's a $14K watch I guess simple doesn't necessarily mean cheap. Think of classic design. Two of my favourites, not cheap at all: DayBed by Eileen Gray: Chair by Werner Max Moser: Val.
Member X Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 It does seem that, to a certain extent, you pay more for 'clean design' (i.e. less lol) in designer world $540 for a shirt though? I ask anyone to justify what on earth about it costs that much to make.
valerian Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 It does seem that, to a certain extent, you pay more for 'clean design' (i.e. less lol) in designer world That is rule No. 2 about beautiful stuff: The less chi-chi you want, the more you pay (Rolex Bling watches being a famous exception, of course). Rule No. 1 being that no matter what it is, if it's the most expensive solution it's the one I like the most (same exception as above applies). Val.
lanikai Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Might be simple but it's a $14K watch .. maybe the shirt is Egyptian cotton ..man those shoulders are tiny .. doesn't do an Armani justice..
DuDro Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 The beauty and worth of such time pieces is in the movement...
Member X Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Rule No. 1 being that no matter what it is, if it's the most expensive solution it's the one I like the most (same exception as above applies). Val. LOL I seem to have that rule too...
robbnj Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 The beauty and worth of such time pieces is in the movement... Sorry, but I'm not buying it any more (literally). For example, some complications sell for $200K, but they are "made by hand and take several thousand man-hours to produce". OK, so one watchmaker spends a full working year building one watch. How much dos he get paid for that year? How much of the rest of the money goes to advertising & intermediate profits? Gen mfgrs. hate the rep industry because it shows how ridiculously overpriced the gens are. Screw the logos and branding; buy a good homage that is made with a true ETA (or other) mvmt. and you've got a watch that is as good as (or in some cases better than) the gen. Take a gen Rolex & swap the movement for a good-quality non-Rolex one. It'll look the same, tell time the same, and might even require LESS service. It's all hype and brand posturing, IMHO.
