jmb Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Are the physical date wheels interchangeable between 2836-2 and 2824 movements?
FxrAndy Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 no the 2836 has the thicker date wheel because of the day date mech
Gorilladame Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 but you could clue it on top of the 2824 if you are using a spacer. thats the way I want to go if I ever get my hands on any white Rolex-1680-flattop-3-open-6+9-working-on-a-2824-movement-date-disc, which apprears harder than I thought. Actually I am unable to find any :-(
stilty Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 It depends on which way you are going. You can install a 2836-2, 2846, 2834-2 in a 2824-2 and 2892-A2 movement. But you can't go the other way. 2824-2 and 2892-A2 are flat date discs. The 2836-2 and 2846 are stepped for an overall thickness of around 0.6mm (approx), and the 2834-2 has a step for overall thickness of .40mm (approx) fyi - 2834 discs are great for 2824 and 2892 franken projects
jmb Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks, all, for the responses and council. This would have been installing a 2824 wheel into a 2836 so I guess it's a no-go.
ubiquitous Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 As stilty mentioned, the 2836-2 datewheel is stepped at the gear/teeth, whereas the 2824 and 2892 are flat. If you need a 2836 datewheel, I can check my spares for you. If I have one, of course it would be gratis to you
highoeyazmuhudee Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 what would happen if a 2824 was installed? I believe I bought one off the bay a while back to replace one in my 2836 and it sits in the movement as we speak
ubiquitous Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 A 2824 datewheel just won't fit correctly; the gearing/teeth are stepped down to fit into the 2836's channel/ratchet. The flat datewheel for the 2824 lacks that step, and hence won't fit properly. When I get home (and if there is enough daylight), I'll snap some pics to illustrate.
ubiquitous Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Some pics of the datewheels, as promised. 2836 has the stepped lip: This next pic is not so great as the DoF is rather shallow. But it still gets the point across: Hope this helps... Cheers, //ubi
