Do Genuine Manual Wind Panerai's Have A Hack Function?

Hey all.

the title kind of says it all really.

Someone told me that the Unitas movts they use in genuine panerai's have a hack function.

Can anyone say weather its true or false? (maybe Veni, swdavid, quarks, or anyone else who owns a gen pam?)

I can not confirm as mine is automatic, Veni can not because he has no seconds, but maybe a good ear lol...

Quarks has a 111, so he should be able to tell easily...

But I would put money on it that they don't, as the 6497 is not a hacking movement.

No hack on the OPI, OPII, OPX, OPXI 6497 movements, but you can do a psuedo hack- A slight bit of back pressure to the crown when setting the time will cause the seconds to freeze; once you let off on the crown, the small seconds will resume. This also works on some other manual wind movements as well (I know my Swiss V23 does and Omega 562 as well)...

Okay, I have never understood this slight pressure backwards to stop the second hand from advancing. (several gen Pateks are this way too)

How do you put reverse pressure without changing the time? Are we talking a different crown setting than the one to set the time?

Carefully. :D

My Seiko SKX031 does this too. You get used to advancing past and applying back pressure.

Thanks for the replys guys.

The guy who told me this actually sells gen panerai's.

A while ago, he said my 127 was fake because....in comparison to his (gen) 188

1. The crown guard has writing on it

2. The crown is different.

3. The crystal is domed.

4. There is no hack function. (remember the 188 is an auto).

5. Its too big compared to his one. (obviously the 188 is 44mm compared to 127 being 47mm)

I bet i could sell him any of the 44mm auto pam reps as real, not that i would.

No he actually has his own shop in Palmers Green, north London.

Sells loads of high end watches like Ap's and (ergh) Jacob & Co's.

A mate of a mate.

Doesn't know Sweet FA about panerai's though!
