The Bijoux Terner thing is actually quite cute I thought, but what's that going on at the bottom of the crystal?!

You know nothing. That's the famous "bobbing 6" movement designed for the Japanese Navy. The bobbing 6 floats on a 4mm sump of pure Glycerine and always resettles back to the 6 o'clock position to let the diver (or failed kamikaze pilot) know he's right side up in the water. Like a lot of their zeros in WWII, it never took off. Still a collectors item though. Banzai!
