James Bond watches - Casino Royal 2006

OK, so it is pretty common knowledge now that new Bond actor Daniel Craig has been spotted on set filming his action shots wearing a black Omega Planet Ocean rubber strap model. He has even turned up at the publicity events wearing the same watch. (I won't crow too much about how it was myself who broke the news in the 'old' forum, and to the mi6.co.uk 007 fansite, beating their resident watch expert to the news and making him look a twit in the process when they front paged his exclusive that it was going to be a DeVille model, forcing him to back track on his own website. Anyhoo...)

My spies in the camp have sent me this pic from the set (the full picture and others from the scene can be viewed at evagreenweb.com

Looks like the good old blue SMP is making a comeback, although the rumour is it is in fact the GMT model this time...

Ah, yes. Dell Deaton. The man who keeps getting it wrong. Who do you think it was put him right.

Go check the official Omega webpage featuring the James Bond Collection. According to Dell Deaton the SMP GMT was taken off the page as a result of his threats to file a claim for false advertising.

Well, guess what - they put it back after he stopped obsessively bombarding them with emails, hence the GMT rumour....

Dell Deaton makes the Paneristi appear laid back. Read that blog and see if you can spot the sour grapes.

:whistling:

@Rolexman - nobody said Bond only had to wear one watch per movie ;)

Well, I for one am hoping it is a PO. I now realize the days of the submariner are gone for 007. I think Omega is a nice choice and if there are 2 Omega models in the movie, the more the merrier for us!

I would like to know if these watches are going to have any gadgets!

I'm obviously not hinting strongly enough. :p

The Planet Ocean is DEFINITELY in the movie - the shots are 'in the can'. So far I haven't confirmed if the Seamaster Pro is definitely there too, but from what I can make out from the 'in the sea' spy shots there were cameramen and sound guys in the water with the actors, which suggests the SMP is making an appearance too. As far as I know, no gadgets though.

Also, there's a line in the (draft) script where the leading Bond girl (played by Eva Green) asks Bond if its a Rolex he's wearing. His reply - "No, it's an Omega...." Very clever blatant product placement, but I don't want to give too much of the story away by saying the question is relevant to the female character's role in the movie....

Aw, come one, you're as keen to spill the beans as we are to gobble them up!!!

Don't want to spoil it for you. All I'll add is that the story is pretty close to the original Ian Fleming book but brought right up to date - very contemporary storyline.

Also, there's a scene near the end that will have the guys in the audience wincing, but again if you know the book that isn't a great secret.

Did someone mention squidgy balls in another thread?

I love Omegas, and both the SMP and Planet Ocean are great watches, but let's face it -- the choice of watch for James Bond has less to do with the "cool factor" and everything to do with the manufacturer paying beaucoup bucks for key product placement. In Omega's case their big 007 Seamster billboards and magazine ads doubled as ads for the watch and ads for the Bond franchise. Movie makers drool over stuff like that.

I got confirmation today. It IS the GMT version of the blue Seamaster that will be used in the movie, along with the Planet Ocean for the action/stunt shots.

Think I'll stick with my plain one for now - a rep with a pretend GMT movement using a 2836 doesn't really appeal to me, and the dial looks too fussy anyway.

Oh, and how misaligned is that bezel insert in the picture (genuine, too!!!)

Here is one from a time where the answer to that question would have been vice versa...

Live and let die ...

I wish they would make a rep with these features:

- Rotating bezel saw

- Elektromagnetic case

- and of course those nice red / white lumes ...

Maybe a suggestion for Angel & Jay's perfect sub project? (JPS !?! :thumbsupsmileyanim: )!!

I preferred the Pavoni coffee machine from that movie. Especially when, after going to all the palaver of making his boss a cup, M asks Bond "Is that all it does?"

Moore the best Bond??? Please!! Too soft to be taken seriously.

Connery will always be the greatest Bond....followed by Brosnan....then Dalton.

I even prefer Lazenby to Moore.

I admit it may be due to the fact that the Moore Bond movies tried too hard for hackneyed humor.

mmmmmm... Roger Moore.. Coolest James Bond ever...

ANDREW: We are really super-villains now, like ... like Dr. No. (Jonathan grins)

WARREN: Yeah, back when Bond was Connery, and movies were decent.

JONATHAN: (scornful) Who remembers Connery? I mean, Roger Moore was smooth.

WARREN: You're insane. You're short, and you're insane.

ANDREW: I like Timothy Dalton!

-Warren smacks Andrew upside the head.-

ANDREW: Hey!

I have very high hopes for the new guy. Some people don't like change so will always prefer the guy they knew first, but Daniel Craig is matched only by Dalton as the best ACTOR to play the part (not including David Niven's outing, which doesn't count).

I will give it a try, although I believe Owen would be perfect for the part :)

The deal with Roger Moore is that he brought Bond through the 70's...with those bell-bottomed pants and wide collars, who else could?

I am willing to give Daniel a chance. It's hard to not think of Brosnan as/is Bond, he's has been hyped for Bond since 1986. 20 years is a long time, 10 as Bond, 10 as almost Bond...
