hackR Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I'm in the final stages of assembly of my Tudor Chrono project...I want to replace the rep crystal with one that doesn't have the rolex coronet in the glass...I called ofrei and to no avail... The crystal i am looking for is similar to this one: Specs are: Diameter @ compression ring: 29.4894mm Overall diameter: 30.4292mm Overall thickness: 1.9558mm Thickness @ compression ring: 1.016mm I'm good with either plastic or glass (preferably sapphire, of course) Here's a pix of what my project will look like: Thanks...R
alligoat Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The Rolex 25-295-1 would do it, but it has no cyclops.
FxrAndy Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 If that is a sapphire you can always swap the cyclops over There is a post about it somewhere
alligoat Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 CousinsUK has decent crystals, they might even carry it w/ the cyclops to the right for Tudor.
hackR Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 Excellent...is there a comparable sized Clark or other brand/source crystal out there?... Any suggestions on where to look? What's the spec on the the Rolex 25-295-1? Thx...R
hackR Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 i picked up a 2.5x cyclops from Pix I plan to install... Justin recommended I add the cyclops later for proper alignment...
Mapman57 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Sent you a PM with a suggestion also ;-)
alligoat Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Your specs are basically the Rolex spec- 29.5mm and 30.5mm with about a 1mm lip and the gasket is maybe 2mm overall because it slide over the case rehaut ring. Clark's may carry a crystal for Tudor- ask Gary, but his profile may not be as good as Cousin's. http://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/4/494/1957.aspx
Irontomkidd Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Try scotchwatch.com. It took them 4 weeks or so, but they were able to source a Gen Rolex crystal for me. Have to email as the website is for crap.
hackR Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 Am mobile now, so will chk cousins, etc tonight... Does this size come with or without cyclops? If with cyclops, I have to assume its a crapshoot as to whether the cyclops would align with a 7750 movement and dial date window...unless someone has specific experience, i'll buy without and add cyclops later...
jmb Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The gen Tudor crystal is too big. I wound up using mine on my Jumbo Prince Oysterdate! I ordered a plain sapphire of the correct diameter but it didn't come with the groove or lip. If you can get a plain crystal that fits I think that would be the best way to go and then glue on the magnifier...
hackR Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 hey Justin... i can find the right diameter - but, as you say, the "lip" or "step" profile is tough to find...the rehaut thickness is only 1mm, so the xtal would be very thin and flush with the bezel...ideal is 2mm thickness with the 1mm "step" above the bezel... looking for one without a cyclops - knowing i can add it later for better "alignment"...but this "step" profile is what i really need...
hackR Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 justin - did you check out the 25-295?
jmb Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 No, I never got that industrious. I ordered the gen-spec and then the flat sapphire from ofrei, and finally rotated the crystal 180 degrees and glued on the cyclops!
hackR Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 thanks, J...i recall you said that before... i can't seem to find the right "step" profile...the 25-295 and the tropic 13 aren't the same profiles... hmmmmm...still looking...
hackR Posted December 26, 2010 Author Report Posted December 26, 2010 to close out this quest - i ordered this crystal below... 30.4/29.4 crystal per the specs - it should work....but we all know how this goes... R-
jmb Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 R, the problem I see with that is that the magnifier is going to be in the "Rolex position" which is to far left...
hackR Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 R, the problem I see with that is that the magnifier is going to be in the "Rolex position" which is to far left... hey J -- yes - i agree...i'll just pop off the mag and reset it...the hard part was finding a crystal with the overall specs...i'm hoping it will work... Did you check with Offshore? TT - thanks...no...but its a good idea...thanks!
ArkoN Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I really like this watch, nice work :-)
