How to remove gold plating?

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I am beginning a nice franken Tudor project, and I've sourced a great vintage caseset from 1965.

Unfortunately, the caseset is gold plated...

Anyone knows how to remove gold plating?

Thank you for your help!

Either acid or sand/polish, I can't remember what kind of acid. Quite often the gold may have copper plating underneath

I wore a TT watch wadefishing in the bay (saltwater) and it took the GP off the bracelet! Luckily the watch was WR.

Then there's the old Coke story- put a tooth in a glass of Coke and it will be gone in the morning. Coke also works well on battery connections.
