JoeyB Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I have a list of Rolex crown applications but it seems there is some debate on what is right or not. Does anyone have, or can we make a definitive list/sticky of Rolex crowns? I'd like to not only list the size, but part numbers, including 'Brevet' and '+' crowns, and pictures would be good too. This is what I have, but it doesn't cover the newer 'Retro' models like the GMT II 16710. Rolex Crown MODEL CROWN SIZE 1. Explorer 1016 - 6mm winding crown 2. GMT-Master 1675 - 5.30mm winding crown 3. Day-Date 1802-6 - 6mm winding crown 4. Air-King 5500 - 5.30mm winding crown 5. Explorer 5504 - 5.30mm winding crown 6. Submariner 5508 - 6mm winding crown 7. Submariner 6200/6538/5510 - 8mm winding crown 8. Submariner 6538A - 8mm winding crown 9. Submariner 5512/5513 - 7mm winding crown 10. Air-King Date 5700/5701 - 6mm winding crown 11. Turn-o-graph 6202 - 5.30mm winding crown 12. Submariner 6204/6205 - 6mm winding crown 13. Daytona 6234/38/39/40/41/62/63/64/65 - 6mm winding crown 14. Milgauss 6541/6543 - 6mm winding crown 15. Sea-Dweller 1665 - 7mm winding crown Edited February 9, 2011 by JoeyB
jmb Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 There goes my theory about all 36mm watches taking 6mm crowns... Thanks for the list!
rosnik Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 NicE! Thank you. You lose DateJust models....
wiesn089 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 6263/6265 and 6240 have 7mm crowns not 6mm. I think the non oyster cosmographs (without screw-down pushers) take 6mm but I'm not very familiar with those.
alligoat Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 I agree with wiesn089, 6263 and 6265 have 7mm crown and tube and likewise the 6240 if it has screw-down pushers. I think an Air King Date 5700/5701 may have a 5.3mm tube and crown as well as the 1500 series Date. But some of this is tricky because the 600-602 crowns have 6mm tubes, but late model DJ's with the 603 crown have a 5.3mm tube. And even though you have a 5.3mm tube, the crown will still probably measure around 6mm. A few yearsw ago someone posted the Rolex crown chart which listed which crowns for which models.
JoeyB Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 If we can get a full and corrected list and add pictures to it, along with which tube for what application, I think it'd be a very good thing.
JoeyB Posted February 10, 2011 Author Report Posted February 10, 2011 Does anyone have any crown/tube listing or info on the newer models at all? Years used and transitional points? Does Rolex have a chart, and if so, where?
wiesn089 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 According to Stefano Mazzariol's book "A Legend is Born": Rolex Daytona 6240: Twinlock 700 winding crown (7mm) Rolex Daytona 6263/6265: Twinlock 700 (7mm), from 1972 on Triplock 701, second half 70s Triplock 702 and from around 1982 Triplock 703. Rolex Daytona 6238/6239/6241/6262/6264: Oyster Twinlock 600 (6mm) During service they are all fitted with their crown's modern counterpart which is parts number 24-703-0 (7mm) and 24-600-0 (6mm) respectively. All these crowns have different tubes to go with, so the challenge is not only sourcing the correct crown but also a matching tube which can be a real pain. If you put a Twinlock crown on your Cosmograph you might also want to exchange the pushers for correct ones from that era (parts number 24-p301 for 6263/6265) but these are ridiculously expensive. I think the same chart will apply to Submariners (at least Ref. 1680 and 5513/5512). Until 72 Twinlock 700 and so on.

ww12345 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Don't you want to sell me your "A Legend is Born" book ? It's almost impossible to find... I think a copy is still available in the VIP section of RWG2...
Valty Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 I think a copy is still available in the VIP section of RWG2... I'm sorry but I don't find the page, even with the search ... Have you the link by any chance ?
wiesn089 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Sorry Valty, but I just own the iPhone version, not the book itself.
Valty Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 Sorry Valty, but I just own the iPhone version, not the book itself. Oh, I doesn't know there is an iPhone version Found "iDaytona", I bet this is it :-) Thanks for the info !
Valty Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Worth every penny! I agree, for 10 EUR (vs. like 200 EUR new, in book format...), there is not so much hesitation on my side
