Jkay
Now that we've established that DSSD dials are gloss, and the whole "matte thing" is an old wive's tale ... why is senator's "gen" dial matte? I hope he didn't get ripped off.

Mister Bill
Wow, good info here. Did not know the case had so many parts. I was going to mod one of these eventually but I am now afraid!

The rep DSSDs don't have so many parts. They combine some interior parts into one unit to cut costs.

geo1nah2a
The plot thickens Is there any chance that the JP DSSD dials were refinished to match the special design of the watch?

geo1nah2a
Well, with such a big difference in dial finish over a singe generation, one would expect to find a few threads/posts in GEN forums. The silence goes to show how much the GEN owners know about their watches, and what their discussions are about.. Kudos to RWG (and other rep-forums) for the quality of content created! No wonder most of us frequent GEN forums only for news kits and some infrequent quality pics
geo1nah2a
Ah Ha! There is some evidence that they did make adjustments in the dials... http://www.timekeeperforum.com/showthread.php?10432-Interesting-News-About-The-Rolex-Deepsea-Sea-Dweller-Dials! This is the change from MK1 to MK2 (difference in fonts and spacing).
senator
the Franken (BK) DSSD is finished for now: -gen crown, tube & dial. The gen insert will not match the rep bezel. OEM hands, the next step in some days......... Edited June 14, 2011 by senator
scotty
re lume..... Reps come with blue lume. Gen (as per photo in this chain) is turquoise blue/green, not pure blue. Seen gens in dealers and they have this blue green.

ImWatchingYOU
Great project you got going around there. So the gen dial is smaller then the rep? Or why do you have the gap on the top of the dial between the dial and the case?

drwho
I love the matte dial, but it's been bothering me. I remembered that I had a dissected DEEPSEA image in my files and offer this for those that might be feel a little disappointed that their dial isn't matte... Gotta love Rolex... does anybody know how to disassemble the bezel of the dssd? the same way like you manage it with a sd (take a knife and pull off at position 7 or 11)? Watchmeister
Awesome loop. I am surprised the date from the ETA movement lines up perfectly with the window on the gen dial. No surprise on the bezel insert. The construction on the gen is very different.

folex
The biggest give away is the insert, if only it can be swapped like the subs
Watchmeister
the date wheel is oem too.... I know this is an old loop but once someone bumped it up again I reread it and am kind of curious. How do you fit a date wheel from a Rolex proprietary movement into an ETA movement? I do love that dial.
w.genzo
not into, glued over the ETA's
