Interestingly, the Doxa 300T Conquistador was the first watch with a helium release valve for sale to the general public (1969), however Rolex holds the patent.*

I believe Rolex partnered with another watch company in designing the original He valve that was used in the Comex Sub &, later, in the SD. That other watch company may have been Doxa.

I had never been a rolex fan until I encountered the sea dweller. I respect the watch for its remarkable engineering and abuse-taking powers. It is also generally not guilty of the sins of the submariner which stays on yuppie wrists and never goes into the briney deep.
