danielv2000
I have an incoming WM9 v3. I already sourced a gen bezel, insert, spacer and click spring. I have been unable to source a gen crystal retaining ring. What are my options? Also, how easy of a job is it to replace the stock wm9 bezel and fit in the gen parts? Your expert help will be much appreciated.
ubiquitous
The swap would ultimately be a 1 for 1 exchange with a genuine crystal ring. The WM9 crystal ring has to be reduced at the O.D. a slight amount if I recall correct; the genuine bezel will not snap on. At least that was my experience with my old V1. I have been unable to source a gen crystal retaining ring. What are my options? 1. Keep looking. I bought mine on ebay for $70. 2. Try the aftermarket part on the WM9 v3 to see if it works 3. Try other aftermarket crystal rings to see if they work-like this one from Mr. Slimeball http://cgi.ebay.com/RETAINING-BEZEL-INSERT-ROLEX-SUBMARINER-16610-16800-/310304841634?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483f9c1fa2 If it doesn't work, send it back, tell him it didn't work. At least you should get your $99 back and it cost you $7 plus return postage to try it out. AandEwatches on the bay also sells aftermarket 16610 parts as do other sellers. Keep looking. Your results may vary! Changing this stuff out requires the basic tools like a case knife and a crystal press for instance.
danielv2000
Would an aftermarket crystal retaining ring do the trick?
alligoat
You don't know until you try. Aftermarket parts vary, so all you can do is try. I put the gen crystal retaining ring on my ETZ 16610 and it stopped the leaking immediately. So then I had to find an aftermarket bezel that fit. When I did, the gen insert that I had no longer fit, but a decent aftermarket insert snapped right in there. Some day I'll file down a gen insert to fit in there, but first I'll tear up the aftermarket one. Swam with the watch last week end, a WR watch is always nice. Just remember to rinse them with fresh water afterwards if you're swimming in saltwater.

So what you're saying, is that I cannot do this job myself as I have no tools! Great. I don't get it. Either these watches take gen parts or they don't! thatkidd304
I'd pm bk he can tell you 100% if parts will fit with/without modding them and can probably source anything you want.

Either these watches take gen parts or they don't! If you have the entire genuine bezel assembly, then yes- The case will accept those genuine parts as a 1:1 swap. If you try and mix and match the gen bezel ring to the WM9 crystal retainer, then it will not retrofit properly. But you do need certain tools to do the job, as you would on a genuine 16610 (or any watch for that matter).

danielv2000
How were you planning to get the parts installed with no tools? Honestly, I thought I would pop out the old bezel and snap in the new gen assembly! As you can tell, I am no modder!

sneed12
I have one of those on a Noob 16710 (it started as a Noob Explorer II and I added the bezel) and other than being overpriced it's a nice piece.

danielv2000
I bought the gen bezel assembly to be able to swap inserts like the gen. Is this still possible?
thatkidd304
I always thought you could swap inserts on the v3 assembly
sneed12
So the WSO bezel fits the noob case? Almost Just a hair too big. I need to figure out a permanent solution. I'm wondering if my crystal gasket might be a hair under spec in terms of thickness.
