Nice one ade, interesting to meet true watch fans and have a good conversation about reps/gens without any of the usual snooty stuff that goes on in gen forums. I find it's most often the older watchmakers that are much less hung up about brands and gens and are happy to talk openly about the love of watches.

Also cheers, Gran, it's a really lovely watch, I read your review, they are pretty hard to find now but they are available with some slight changes, it makes a lovely dress watch.

Absolutely. I gotta tell you, man, the more I learn about the rep world, the more cool, knowledgeable, design aware, engineering and technology loving people I meet. It was such a pleasure talking to that woman, but also with the folks here, online. I must admit , that I have learned more about watches and to love the design and technology behind them since I discovered the rep scene, than at any other point in my life. I also noticed that the older folks and true watch lovers can't be arsed about you or them wearing a rep or a gen, as long as you know what you're doing. It's always the younger people I meet (no offense intended, just a personal subjective and absolutely too generalist observation), who are snooty about brands. I think that maybe as you grow older, you get to a point in your life, where you stop giving a damn about that stuff and simply pursue your passions. And maybe it's not about the age at all, maybe it's about a state of mind. Don't know.

Anyway, I gotta tell you, I'm extremely delighted by this new hobby of mine, but above all by the people I have met since.

you gotta post some pics!

I think I definitely will mate, when I get the extra couple of links taken out of it (have a skinny-ass 6.5" wrist, pretty much have to take 4-5 links out of the band). Hopefully I can take a few decent snaps with the iphone camera...

Here's one of the QC pics front on:

rh7mM.jpg

Just a couple of quick observations about it:

- Keeping time alright so far, left it overnight and lost about 5 seconds, I knew the QC claims were a bit too generous (+1, +3, -1, -6 s/day) but it might settle down after a while

- Bezel is that tiny, tiny bit off centre, or it might even be well aligned, I might be looking at it the wrong way and adding a bit of parallax error

- Has a nice heft to it, the Gen is meant to be about 190 g, this feels like it's easily that, will have to get it on the scales at some point. Still, feels nice and solid

- Links are nice, probably not as smooth as the Gen, but when the whole watch costs 1/4 of what an Omega band is... something has to give

- Clasp is really nice feeling, doesn't stick anywhere, deployable clasp is alright too. The steel looks and feels pretty good too, I know this is probably 316 while the Gen is 440, been trying to look up the differences, which I'm guessing is most likely down to chemistry and the resulting properties of that.

- As far as I can tell, the back is decent, maybe the seamonster (which I found out just then is the hippocampus, thought that was the part of the brain that dealt with memory... learn something every day) isn't as pronounced? Either way, the engraving is really nice, I haven't seen a Gen, but looking at pictures on the Omega site were pretty close

- Maaaaaybe the only fault I can see (though I expect others could pick it apart in seconds) is the slight happy feet on the Omega logo on the dial, but it's one of those things you don't notice unless you're looking really closely at it

All in all, really happy with it, some great communication from Josh, and pretty quick posting, after Chinese New Year, of course, haha!

Unfortunately I must admit my ignorance - I have never read any of Nygårdshaug's books. i've read Sophie's World and some of the Hamsun's works, but other than that, I'm unfamiliar with the Norwegian literature. Mengele Zoo is intriguing, though.

I do listen to alot of Norwegian music, folk, jazz (Garbarek being one of my all time favorites), as well as electronica (Royksopp, 120 days etc) and some early death metal bands

Yes Garbarek is great as is Røyksopp....Sophie's World is ok too :) but Mengele Zoo is a much more potent book

If you have read Hamsun you are in doing just fine :) Hamsun was a genious (but its unfortunate that he loved that Austrian madman A. Hitler. He even wrote an long piece about A. Hitler in the major newspaper Aftenposten telling everyone how sad he was that "the great man" was dead :fool: )

Anyhow the man you must read these days is Karl Ove Knausgård

Starting with Out of the World (Ute av verden) from 1998

Try to turn the bezel a few revolutions to align it. I noticed the same, very small variation from the triangle point lining up exactly with 12:00. The rotating bezel may be off by a mil or something, but as I turn it, usually 2 or 3 times, it aligns perfectly.

This is how I first came to knowing Hamsun, I was writing a paper on the decline of the National Socialist movement post war and came across his name, while reading Dietrich's memoirs. He was passionate about the Nazi regime and a racist in general. Something didn't add up about his late political views and this early anarchist leanings, so I had to read his books to try to understand him. Putting his political views aside he indeed was a true genius and his Nobel prize was well deserved. After turning the last page of his Growth of the Soil, I was literally speechless for a week. The book had a deep influence on me, personally.

Thanks for your recommendation. Was Knausgard translated?

EDIT: To stay on topic: Omega PO is great! ;)

Well, after some back and forth, my PO finally arrived today!

I'd think it was a gen if I didn't know better - it's beautiful! This picture doesn't do it justice. I will be writing a review with lots of photos this weekend...

Well, the free shipping from Hong Kong can take quite a while, but you should have it soon. It's been ten days since you ordered it, and most of my shipments from there show up after about two weeks or so. If you get too frustrated you could always order it from a UK/US seller and have it within a week, but it will cost a lot more for the same item.
