vandal.tbh
Hey guys, I'd like to poll everyone for some suggestions. I'm looking for a nice dress watch. Something simple and elegant. I have a vision of a simple black face, black leather band and gold (or preferably rose gold) case. I'd like it to be high quality and preferably with an exhibition back. Here are a few I've found that I like the looks of: A Lange & Sohne Classic Regulator: http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=8834 IWC Portofino Automatic: http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=30_190&products_id=8033 Piaget Altiplano Ultra Thin: http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38&products_id=7460 A Lange & Sohne Tourbillon: http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=6405 These watches all look similar, but I'm not married to any of the specs I listed above. It doesn't have to be rose gold or have a black face. I just want something that would fit nicely with a formal suit or tux. Highest priority to the quality of the fit and finish. Thanks in advance! txcollector
A Lange & Sohne Classic Regulator: http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=8834 Fantasy but nice. You will need real leather or croc strap instead of the plastic thing that comes with it. IWC Portofino Automatic: http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=8033 Also fantasy since the RG Portofino doesn't come with a black dial. Crown is too big, DW is too big and font wrong, caseback should RG as well. Piaget Altiplano Ultra Thin: http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=7460 Apart from the fact it's a quartz (ugh) and totally fantasy (not a single thing is similar to the Altiplano's), I don't see anything wrong with it A Lange & Sohne Tourbillon: http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=6405 Awful. Stay away from anything that's labeled Tourbillon but in fact is an open heart cheap rep.
vandal.tbh
Haha. Ok thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear. I figured at those prices they weren't top of the line. I just didn't know in what ways. Do you have any suggestions? That's really what I need. I'm kinda looking for something along those lines, but I'd really just like to hear what you guys with more experience have found that looks really nice in the "dressy" watch category. And, something that's quality. Accuracy to the gen in this watch isn't as important to me as long as it is a quality rep that looks good. There's a ton of info on sport/dive watches here, but I've searched and am not finding much on dressier watches.
txcollector
so dressy, RG, black dial?

txcollector
A good option but it's a 45mm http://puretimewatch.com/product/big-bang-classic-fusion-45mm-rgrg-black-dial-black-rubber-a2892/ the ones above are good too.
japanic
Although technically a sport watch, I think the leather band dresses up the Royal Oak Jumbo quite nicely. http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=3554 Or try the simple elegance of the Lange 1815 http://puretimewatch...her-strap-a17j/ You may also consider the classic Datejust and just put it on a genuine croc band. Adeodatus
Glashutte Original Senator Sixties in Rose Gold http://www.1-pc8838....ian-p-6026.html Vacheron Constantin Patrimony in Rose Gold http://www.1-pc8838....uto-p-4783.html The best options by far. I'd go withSenator Sixties, because imho nothing beats a handwind watch when it comes to dress watches. There's something nice about having to stop and wind the watch right before you go out. Calms you down and gives you a minute to think.
fotoman
You could put a nice strap and aftermarket AR on a lump of [censored] from 7-11 and it Would dazel 99.9% of people and even watch lovers. Finding a watch for the right occasion for me is a multi step process and the various order of importance is also circumstantial so, l'll give you my list and if you want to use it, decide which factors are best. 1. Price rep + strap + mod 2. Availability - 1:1 vs pretty good vs nice watch but fantasy. (remember only supreme supreme watch obsessions could tell something is wrong with it, especially with strap and AR. Don't fall into the trap of thinking the other 7 billion people on the planet have any idea of what a patek Phillip is, could be a disease or something, let alone what is not available.) - however when you get down to the 100$ pieces many have such inferior quality that there seems something off about it, and many I can't even enjoy. 3. Message - just like your shoes, your tie, your hair, all send messages so can your watch. So, what message are you trying to send? I would never wear a patek to a job interview or in many situations where, just in case someone has heard of the brand you don't want to throw off, I'm rich. This is especially true with rolex. Sometimes you don't want clients think they are paying you so much you can live the phat life off them. Or sometimes you want to give off that extra power thing in order to gain leverage. Sometimes I leave the expensive rep at home and wear a rolex (which I have on fire sale) because no one knows what xyz brand is, but that 5k rolex sends the message. 4. Do YOU actually enjoy the piece 5. Does the piece satisfy more than 1 category 6. Is there a gen you have always coveted that can fit. 7. Will it fit under the dress shirt cuff (more important than you think) There are many omegas that are nice- come on SS no strap needed. A couple of longines I have the one with the day year in 12 subdial. It's smaller than my usual pieces but fantastic out of the box and looks great with a suit. Real tour billon look great. The parmigiana (sp) are great There are a bajillion frank mullers - I haven't seen the vanch Constantines are good. Not sure if they are still around but there are gold radiomars That are nice

cougar1
Bloody Senator Sixties not available anymore....disappointed because a few weeks ago I checked multiple dealers and got same answer....no longer made....such a shame! The VC patrimony range are great though, if you can get one with the date wheel perfectly aligned, even better. gran
http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=541 1. AP real flying Tourbillion is a great dress watch 2. http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=241_244&products_id=8812 I have always loved also the AP Jules Audemars Classic (Case diameter on replica =41.5mm while is 39mm on the genuine) 3. mbjoer
I would look at Vacheron Constantin. There are a few nice reps of this make. If you can live with a white gold/steel version, here is one for sale which has had all relevent mods done to it: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/vacheron-constantin-malte-93673.html

fischyyy
If it doesn't have to be a 100% 1:1 rep i would try this. http://www.1-pc8838....498-p-8782.html Cheap, nice movement decor and a great dress watch. Otherwise the Vacheron Overseas with the leather strap is a nice option, it's a really accurate rep and with an ETA reliable as a daily beater as well. I own the watch with the SS band, it's a really nice watch. Understated luxury watch, yet great quality. http://www.1-pc8838....362-p-8163.html Edited January 23, 2012 by fischyyy
Noel Fleischer
Some good suggestions here. I have the Lange Datograph on gen leather really nice in Rose Gold.It has the big date which is cool IMO. The Glashutte Senator is plain and classy- also quite cheap. I also have the HB Classic Fusion in PVD, but the gummy strap seems to dress it down. The Glashutte Senator is plain and classy- also quite cheap. Finally the VC OverSeas and Patrimony are both elegant looking.
fotoman
Take a look at Dewitt. I know it's not simple, and the board resale value sucks, but they are sharp, and they retail for like 30k. It's nuts
Mid-Gen
Glad I found this thread as I'm also desperate for a nice dress watch so I hope people continue to throw suggestions out there! I was thiking of going for this PP as it simple and I really like the dial. Total fantasy probably but it looks classic enough to pass unnoticed. http://www.1-pc8838.com/pp10026-classic-chronograph-white-working-chronos-p-1543.html I already have a APRO Jumbo rose gold on bracelet and never really gave a thought to buying an new strap and using that.... Only problem is I'd have to wear rose gold accesories to match, cufflinks, belt buckle etc. Any suggestions for a classic dress watch silver/SS casing and white dial is much appriciated!
