Erict719 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 I got a franken wm9 v3 with gen insert and gen crystal from a member. But there is no crown logo at 6 on the crystal. Doesn't all gen crystal have that logo? how could I check if it's a gen or just a Clark
DeeKa Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Since around 2002 all gen crystals have the crown. If installed from factory it's a normal crown, if it's a replasement, the crown base has a lying S. So it might be an older gen crystal... Dee
Cats Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 I'm certainly no expert but i have never seen a sapphire crystal form Rolex without a coronet at 6 o"clock ( oeps didn't saw the post of Deeka when i was writing ) But let's wait for the real experts to chime in. Carpe Diem Cats
grifter Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 I'm no expert, but I do know that Dee is right on this.
danza1812 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 I have a gen crystal circa 2000 and there is no engraved coronet.
danza1812 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 The other thing to bear in mind is that the crown is really hard to see! I had a gen no date sub 14060 and honestly couldn't see the crown for quite some time, catching the light perfectly and it's very small.
eVojlib Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Deeka is right, not all have the etch at six. And even when they do its really not noticable with the naked eye, really have to hold it at a certain angle to see the etch. It should also be noted that some service crystals come w AR on the cyclops which is now standard on new ceramics in the RLX line. The clarks is nice, however, there is a noticeable difference between it and the gen glass.
Erict719 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 What's the different for me to tell apart from Clark or gen? I have been playing around wif it in the light. But no crown.. for sure .
DeeKa Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 To be sure for the crown - if looking for it at a gen with mounted crystal you know it's at 6 - you have to put a lightsource parallel to the crystal, so the laser dots pop out. If a gen crystal with crown is mounted into a rep you can't be sure that the crown is at 6 and you have to look all over! Dee
Erict719 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Report Posted April 1, 2012 How to tell apart from Clark and gen??
Erict719 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 Really need help how to tell apart from gen and Clark ??
danielv2000 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Really need help how to tell apart from gen and Clark ?? Try taking some clear pictures of the watch and posting them. Perhaps the clarity of the cyclops will generate some help.
ArkoN Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Its really hard to see. I dont see it with my naked eye. But with a marco shot I`m able to spot it and get it. The replica crown is too easy to see. Here is a picture of my gen 16610
