My Montauk Highway with Gen Hornback

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

Been meaning to post this for weeks but haven’t had time.

Just wanted to post a couple of pictures of my Montauk which now is on a gen AP Hornback and wanted to share.

OMG people this strap has completely transformed the whole watch. The colours are so deep, rich and give the whole thing a very gen feeling. The strap is very thick and heavy – I really don’t know now how I lived with that cheap orange rep strap for so long. Honestly if anyone is on the fence about whether or not to upgrade their strap – don’t be – do it now!! You will not be disappointed. Well worth the investment any day and an awesome mod for your watch.

I got the strap from my friend Zorrolondon who also very kindly fitted it for me (not easy) – thanks geezer you’re too kind – chat soon.

Have a good day everyone! Thanks for looking

Hey Z,

Hope you're well mate.

I tried taking loads of pics but they came out crap lol but will try and do some more.

Thanks for doing the pushers too! You're a great help and I really appreciate it always. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

That is a great upgrade. Congrats. I agree that gen straps really dress a good rep up. And now that you have one you probably see the difference between an AP Hornback and anyone else's. There strap maker goes to the trouble to cut the right part of the hide so you get a glimpse of the ridge even in the last third of strap and then the unique rubberized finish on the sides. No other maker goes that extra yard. Of course they aren't getting $550 per strap.

Thanks very much. It's true - the gen strap just oozes quality. Also the fit of it to the watch is solid if you know what I mean.

BUDDA - LOVE it!

I have decided to NOT make my own strap for the Monty now, simply because there are a number of experts out there who make these things ALL the time and will do a better job than me, for a net outlay of time effort and money that is less!

I will stick to my Monty box project - annnnnyway, back to you!

-- I know the gen straps are big money (more than a decent rep watch in many cases) but clearly you think it is worth the investment - the supplied rep strap 'looks' OK until you see one of these babies up close!

I can see by the pics from you and Zorro that the gen is much more substantial and from what I have heard, very soft and supple. There is a richness that matches the watch itself ....

Well done!

@ Inertiadrifter - 100 made - all sold - two have been resold since, so keep an eye out on all the rep forums .... but make sure to "never sleep" because someone might get there before you

;)

Thanks Seriph,

i know it's a similar price to the watch but after seeing the gen strap mounted - it's a must have in my opinion. I thought the rep strap that came with it was okay too until I saw this in the flesh - after that the rep strap had to go! The gen is on a different planet to other straps. In fact whenever I get my next ROO I'm not going to wear it unless it's strapped up.

Thanks again Zorro!

Good luck with the Monty box Seriph - look forward to seeing that.

Box has been on-hold a little over the past few weeks - designed, made and delivered a couple of bill-payers.

Something very cool about having a rep that is probably as rare as the original! Looks like a lovely watch too and great finish to the dial. How do these rarities go for on the second hand market?

Very nice piece - and a great strap upgrade you've done there.
