Rolexman Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Just minutes ago disaster struck..... I was servicing my personal Abyss and just after I cased and uncased the movement for about a 100 times to get the crystal and dial dust free, I was nearly finished when I tried to screw down my crown. Nothing... The threads on the inside of the crown stripped. From the start the crown would only screw done only 1 turn or so but that never bothered me. But the fact the threads on the inside of the crown are made of pudding do p!ss me off! Who else has an Abyss and has crown issues? Do all Abyss' suffer from weak crown and / of short threads or is this related to the recent batches?....... I remember a member posting a similar issue with a crown screwing downs only half a turn.
Mickey Padge Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Happened to me twice, with the same watch, crown was exchanged the first time, but failed again. Finally fixed when Angus swapped the whole case set for me
FDG Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 My turns two time and I wouldn't really rely on it. But it's very waterproof an the timing is superb so I almost never losen the crown.
Rolexman Posted June 3, 2012 Author Report Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks for your replies guys. I'm really bummed out
cougar1 Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Yes, it's another notorious watch with a weak crown....just like the omega PO. There was even a sales thread recently where some guy was flipping a brand new abyss because it wasn't his style, it was at a good price, completely unused, then an hour into the sale he pulled it because the brand new watch crown failed when asked by a poster if he could check the crown action.
opti Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) crappy thing to happen, I wish they would improve this issue, its seems to be really common and its a real pain in the ass to fix. Everytime I screw the crown down in my watches I am paranoid, Edited June 4, 2012 by opti
woof* Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 How much is a gen crown and tube? Who here has swapped them? Or are they hard to get. Sorry, I'm new to this brand rep-wise. This would seem the solution?
FDG Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Breitling parts are very very hard to get. Unless you know a breitling repair center who is a good friend and willing to help you off course.

Watchnuts Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 I would agree on the crown. It never feels good when tightening the crown. [censored], now you got me all worried.
archierocks Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 i used to be able to get gen breitling crowns does anyone know the correct size or code of them and il try and see what i can find

FDG Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 This is the ref of the watch: A1736402/BA28 Would be great if you can source gen crowns and tubes. Dial would be even better

acanuck Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 Would anyone know if the Swiss version of the Abyss suffers from the same 'weak' crown issue or do the asian/swiss movements share them same crown?
alistairw Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 I have Yellow Abyss 42 with Selita movement ... same problem.... bugger!!!
rionrlty Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Hi Rolexman, I have both an abyss and an abyss chrono. Both of them have great crown and tubes and seem to have more threads and a longer tube than most reps. I have had your problem with other Breitling reps though. PS the fighter is doing great.

Thanks for the info. Apparently they updated the crown-tubes. Good news
