Ephry73 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I keep saying it, we need a Sapphire sub section. E
Ephry73 Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 I have a dial dilema. Do I use the gen 16800 white gold marker dial, or venture into the YG side with this other gen 16613 dial? My heart says 16800, but the other side of me says build something different.
correctime Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) I've had a Black Rubber B strap for quite awhile...and have been waiting for the arrival of the Everest Bands Black Rubber Strap (EH-1S) It recently arrived and I must say I LOVE IT....Rubber B makes a great product....Everest Bands makes a BETTER one. IMHO the EH-1S is by far superior to the Rubber B in construction, comfort, appearance AND in cost (at 135.00 THIS strap cannot be beat.) Edited January 10, 2013 by correctime 1
correctime Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 Very comfortable....and sporty lookin' too
Ephry73 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Did someone say Gen Beyeler? I'm debating whether to relume it for aesthetics, not actual lume, or leave it as is. here it is on a Y3135 with Gen date wheel. Note, the 3035 datewheel seems to be top justified on this movement, but working on the setting.
correctime Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 A gen 3035 DW on a Y3135 ?? So the Y3135 has CCW date progression ??
Ephry73 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Yes, but the date disc I had to sand down .18mm or so to fit it it. Still, the best there is out there for the price.
correctime Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 They've cloned the 3135 mvt to have the date advance in the opposite direction ?? You're saying the y3135 date flips up when it changes...not down like a gen3135 and an eta mvt??
gavidoc Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I would relume the dial. I had a spare 16800 matte that I had PBDad relume for my gen 16800. With a set of service hands, i love the matte glow. Well worth it and how a modern sub should look IMO.
Ephry73 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Y3135 has gen date advance. No issues there.
chefcook Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Nope. Y3135 flips down like gen 3135 or ETAs. 3035 DWs won't work.
Ephry73 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Chef is right. The y3135 is a CW date change. The disc I have however has the right progression. Sorry for the confusion. When I answered yes, it was in response to the date disc installed on the movement.
correctime Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) Exactly. That's what had me puzzled. 3035 and 3135's Date Wheels are opposite. So if your DW isn't a gen 3035 DW, what is it ?? Edited January 18, 2013 by correctime
Ephry73 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Yes, the 3135 has a clock-wise progression, whereas the 3035 has an anti-clock-wise progression. I never said otherwise. Call me lucky I guess
correctime Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 Yes, the 3135 has a clock-wise progression, whereas the 3035 has an anti-clock-wise progression. I never said otherwise. Call me lucky I guess "here it is on a Y3135 with Gen date wheel. Note, the 3035 datewheel....." = is what confused me
Ephry73 Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Speaking lume, is PB the choice du jour for the vintage no glow lume?
gavidoc Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Speaking lume, is PB the choice du jour for the vintage no glow lume? I would say yes. On my 16800 I was very specific with him that I wanted the flat look found on Rolex service dials. He said "no problem". Turn around was pretty good and he was upfront that he really wanted to take his time as it was a gen matte dial. Think it was 4-5 weeks. I've had zig luned work as well and pb's was as good as zig's. for my application of flat lume I would say even better as I have personally never seen a zig lume job that was requested to mimic a gen Rolex lume for flatness.
correctime Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 Thanks for that info Gavidoc...that's good to know. While I love the patina'd look lume would be nice but "only" if it was very flat and uniform like gen lume. To me the bubbled markers on aftermarket/rep dials is about the only issue on many that are available and even then not terribly noticable. But once accustomed to the perfectly flat markers on a gen dial it seems nothing else will do. I couldn't ever bring myself to have anything on my dial changed but sooner or later I'll likely find a gen or yuki 16800 dial to have SL'd.
gavidoc Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Here is an angled shot that shows his work. Looks just like my other dials as well as my 1680 service dial.
Ephry73 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 I am with you both Gavi and CT. I have contact PB before and for this build he is getting the nod. I have a set f gen hands that I will to him for a match. E

correctime Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 Very nice looking Doc...WOW!! Thanks goes out to everyone that participated in this thread. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have. I just re-read through from the beginning...alot of great input from alot of great guys with alot of great information on a great Submariner...the 16800
Ephry73 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I've said it and will say it again, we need a Sapphire subs subforum. Organized data matrix with all the data for these submariners. Yes, there is a search button, but it can take a whole to get certain basic details.
