bertieng
Stem broke when winding the movement. What to do and how to change a new stem? Is it needed to dissemble the watch/movement to remove the broken piece left inside? Can someone help with advices please? Thanks a lot in advance. triplehd
When you say stem broke - did it just dislodge from the crown? If you have a caseback opener - unscrew the caseback and carefully remove the stem from the movement. Depending on the movement, you can place a WTB add for a new stem. bertieng
Thanks for advice. No, the stem is broken into two pieces, so part of it is lodged inside the movement. Now what to do?
jmb
Most likely will need to de-case movement. Depending on where it snapped you might be able to latch onto it with tweezers or worse-case have to do a bit of disassembly of the keyless to snag it... bertieng
Thanks. Looks like there is no chances but to dissemble the watch. Afterall, the keyless is on the dial side, no escape but have to remove the hands, dial......
freddy333
Unless the stem broke off inside the pillar plate, you do not need to remove the movement from the case. However, you will need to remove the caseback & note the movement model number (stems are purchased for a specific movement) & see if there is enough of the stem left sticking out of the main plate so it can be removed with tweezers (after you unlock the stem). A good, clear pic of the movement showing the model number & stem would be helpful.
triplehd
What kind of movement is this? If its a 21j movement - not worth taking the movement apart - just buy a new movement (will come with a new stem) which costs about $25.
bertieng
It's ETA2836-2, mates Still no need to remove the movement out of case. Just a tweezer pushing the broken stem out of the movement will work still? Just wonder how come the stem can break in such manner
bertieng
Just found out the movement is actually ETA 2846. In this case, does it share the same stem of ETA 2836/2324? Thanks for any advices in advance.
FxrAndy
A 2846 has a different stem from a 2836 it is one of the few pars that are not exchangeable between the movements (there may be variations between the years in 2846 though when you get it out post a good picture and I may be able to ID it for you and find a spare
