PeteM Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 With my toungue firmly in my cheek.... I have found with various automatics including those with similar movements... that the angle of the shake to wind them varies from watch to watch... not significantly but enough to notice... I have always been a keen shaker... I have wondered why this varies especially with the same movements.... so why is this? Is it the weight variation or size of the bearing weight or the positioning or case..or is it just a shake technique?? Any thoughts? Any comments? Any ardent shakers out there? or are you all happy to have it done for you? no inuendo there I am talking about winders!!
hiker01 Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 with me eyes closed...............................
woof* Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 If you shake it more than twice ... your playing with it
TeeJay Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 As if I was about to roll dice, more wrist rotation than 'magicking the beans' (old UK coffee advert reference )
PeteM Posted July 12, 2012 Author Report Posted July 12, 2012 As if I was about to roll dice, more wrist rotation than 'magicking the beans' (old UK coffee advert reference ) Yeah but can you do the sound as you do it.... you cant do the Nescafe unless you do the sound.... Law of England.. @F.... whose eyes closed ??? @woof.... what about alternating hands after 2 shakes?
Mike on a bike Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Petem "what about alternating hands after 2 shakes?" yes that is ok but you still grow hair on your palms! Funny thread.
redwatch Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 I don't shake.... I swirl. Just like a good brandy

asciwhite Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Almost no auto watches left.. Only manual wind But when I do shake, I flick my wrist to get the engines running...

PeteM Posted July 12, 2012 Author Report Posted July 12, 2012 So Red swirls like brandy... I guess that means he has to warm it up... We now know BikeMike waxes his hands... TJ is in the closet about making a noise as he shakes it... ASC likes to flick it about the place.... and Woof is a long term planner when it comes to shaking it....
blazed7 Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Used to swirl but I swing it like this now (taken from a Seiko instruction manual):

I just wouldn't want to disturb wifey with the noise To quote the Gunny: "Hell, I like you... you can come over to my house and fuck my sister!"
Jkay Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 I swirl them 360 degrees in my palm, but I only count every other swirl, so it mentally seems like I'm doing less work than I am. When I wind my wife's watch, I'll give it 200 swirls to get her started on the day. She doesn't move a lot at work.
