TimeStopper45 Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I live in the U.S. and I was wondering who to go to for AR coating my crystal? -Thanks
ryaku Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 I got a crystal coated by Takashi months ago and it's stunning, not sure the guy is reliable at the moment though. Also Chief has a great AR but the timeline is..unpredictable and very very long at best.
smithdj10 Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 I'm still in need of A Uk or European contact here in the UK. Domi was mentioned but never replied to my PM. My IWC 3717 really needs this!
maestro77 Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 I contacted Domi but was told that he is having issues with his AR coating supplier. Anyone else out there who provides AR coating service like that of chieftang's?
smithdj10 Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Wow - seems like getting AR is a real difficult thing.
rogerthat Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Was never easy You could try vac in the us He is doing coatings but long wait and cost is a little higher than others For an Omega you could spend a little more and get a gen crystal Believe Ofrei in the us sells them
PeteM Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 If you are in the US then Vac would be your first call.... If you are in the EU then you have a couple of guys.... Domi or Uwe... Domi use to use Uwe but is currently getting a deal together with a factory to AR crystals... if successful then you will be looking at crystaless AR.... should know in next few weeks Uwe's AR is very good but does have a slight yellow hue to it.... which is only really noticeable on darker dials... but its a really picky point of detail... Domi has recently had problems in his personal life with illness... so he hasnt been in Germany... He got back last weekish but is trying to catch up with things.... You might find he will reply or that it is possible he doesnt understand the email... His english isnt great and anything too detailed or long winded will cause him problems.... So send him emails in German or Italian But if its English then make it very clear short words. Domi struggles to pick out what you want from long winded stuff.. Avoid Taka at the moment he has to all intent and purpose disappeared.
Fixen Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 I'm still in need of A Uk or European contact here in the UK. Domi was mentioned but never replied to my PM. My IWC 3717 really needs this! I heard that wiz might offer ar soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sunnydale Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Isn't Uwe/FineDD still out of the business?
cougar1 Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Good info Pete, thanks for adding, hope Domi gets the go ahead for these new AR, we are in bad need of more AR'ers at the moment. Also cheers, fixen, forgot about Wiz, if he starts adding it aswell we will suddenly have loads of options.
TimeStopper45 Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Ive decided I will just go with a gen crystal. I tried finding out from andrew what the diameter of my crystal is but he doesn't know. Does anybody know the exact crystal diameter of this rep: I measured it with a ruler and it looks like its 30.1mm. Should I be looking for 30.5mm crystals only? Edited August 4, 2012 by TimeStopper45
edlorpi Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Not sure if it'll help you, but I purchased a single AR coated sapphire crystal from an eBay seller and fitted it into my SMP Chrono. $76 seemed better than taking a gamble on the gen but since this was an aftermarket crystal made for the gen, I'm assuming rep and gen are of the same dimensions. Clarity has improved and since it's the underside that has AR, it won't scratch with regular wear. It looks closer to gen at least in my eyes. The rep crystal was probably the worst crystal I've ever had on any watch - rep or gen. It was cloudy and a glare magnet. Edited August 10, 2012 by edlorpi
