jmb Posted August 20, 2012 Report Share Posted August 20, 2012 While dismantling a new Cartel 5513 it seemed the crystal retaining ring popped off awfully easy. After closer inspection it was obvious that there was a ring of some sort of plastic around the crystal acting as a "shim". I figured that maybe they had a batch of rep crystals that might have been a little undersized on the OD but when the ring just "fell" over a Clark T19 I invented a couple of new words to describe the "ingenuity" of our Chinese brethren. It appears the retaining ring is too large on the ID and needs a shim ala PT. I hope this is an anomaly as the ability to make easy crystal swaps was one of the selling points of this particular series of watches. So much for the easy "swap dial and hands to make a quick Snowlake..." So, now that the Cartel case may also require a new compression ring, does this make the PT case the better choice for modding?
