WTF happened to this gen bracelet?

I got this jubilee bracelet in a group of parts to build a franken datejust.

The seller states it is a definately a gen bracelet. Can anyone tell me what these grind marks are on the back? What would have caused this? Some type of repair or refinishing?

Wear from the fold of the clasp? I have seen wear kinda like that on vintage oysters. The thing is it should be shiny where there is wear. I have some on my vintage oyster. Maybe it was worn, then te brushed?

I don't think that's clasp rub... Maybe they planned to do some dremmel refinishing, and opted to try it on an inconspicuous area rather than trash a visible area...

Probably brushed to make it look better. My wife uses different color file boards for her fingernails. They come in white(very coarse) blue, yellow, and pink(very smooth) My guess is they used the white. You can use a new pink board and it looks almost factory. They work very well for puting a satin finish on bracelets, try it.

Marks like that are caused by the hinge in the clasp rubbing the links in the same spot for a looong time.
