Akira Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I've recently started to research on 6538 big crowns. Why? There were a couple of really great ones at the Rolex Passion Meeting this year. So, I've built one over the last few days... Parts: Silix case -> aged and polished, no sharp edges Stock dial -> aged, relumed and given a tropical look, matte finish Athaya big crown/tube -> Hell, what a pain to make the tube fit the case!!! Clarks T19 -> sanded down to the right height Rafflestimes golden hands -> relumed and aged Inserts slightly faded - pearl removed The tropical look is actually a lot more subtle, but just hard to catch on the camera. It really depends on how the light hits the plexi. Even though I like the look of the watch, it's not for my tiny wrist I hope you like it Full light on the dial - it appears really brown. Next up - A two liner 6538! 2
Lolex_panelai Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 congrats - wonderful build, nice watch! i like 6538's ...
freddy333 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Not sure it qualifies as tropical, which is identified by a distinctly brown tint, but it does look nicely aged. And I would not worry about the watch being too big for your wrist in an age where some are still wearing pocket watch-sized watches .

Yeah Tropical-ish Thanks for the compliment I prefer my Daytonas, DJ and GMT's though
aeromatic Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Very well done ! and a nice piece! wear it well !
woof* Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Very nice Akira. Can you tell step by step how you did the dial? Looks really nice. Isn't this model only 37-38mm?
aeromatic Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Have you got a link for the brevet crown i want one and how did you age the dial i love it?
walrashish Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 I wish I was as handy at modding as you—this is just the right size for my wrist! Have you considered fading the red bezel triangle some more? They look so good when they're faded to a scratched pink. Anyway, beautiful watch!

When I sold it, I offered the buyer to fade the insert a little more. He took the offer Thanks for the compliment. Actually this is just fun for me. I broke so many watches, but this time I really came through However the actual goal is to make tropical/brown Daytona dials.
Akira Posted October 30, 2012 Author Report Posted October 30, 2012 Almost done... Subtle brownish color and dial texture. What do you think?
Ronin Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Nice job. Did you have to glue the crystal on? I didn't think this was a gen like construction case? Finally, what diameter is the dial if you happen to know?

Finally, what diameter is the dial if you happen to know? Yeah, plexi needed to be reduced and glued on rehaut. Left is the original size, right after reducing. "Gen construction"? Meh, I wouldn't say so , however it's thin and nicely shaped and with the Atayah crown, it looks the part. Dial size is 29mm-ish
Guest zeleni kukuruz Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Very nice, now i want one baaaaaaaad!!! Someone selling???
ogladio Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Nice Akira!, are these 21j builds? Need to second that question, as I just bought the case only from Silix without proper research Can a dg2813 fit in somehow?
