New aftermarket High Grade Cosmograpgh / Daytona dials - Help Needed...

Recommended Posts

Hello all, as you may now, DW will soon have new replacement / aftermarket dials made. He says he will use a new maker that will be able to achieve much higher quality that the replacement dials made so far... At this point, he tries to rationalize the production by plate type classification. There are 6 different plates Singer used, attached are the designs (produced or not) for the first plate type. Each of the 6 plates have different subdials grooving, coronet and index sizes and locations. Rare archives from Singer were used to recreate these dials. Note that the said archives are in black and white, therefore there might be some color variations between the original production and this aftermarket product... At this point, I wanted to ask the expert to have a look at this first design to let us know if there are some major mistakes that should be corrected there, or if DW is missing some designs... Many of us need replacement dials, as the original ones are getting harder and harder to get in good condition, so I believe it is worth the effort to help him to have a complete file.

I think the Sigmas on the dials where the sigma sign is not directly next to the "T" is a little bit off. Imo it should sit a little lower, at least it did on mine.

Take a look at the picture of my dial, " o T Swiss T o" sits flush with the end of the minute markers. Otherwise, these dials look amazing, I'm really interested in a silver, a black sigma and a silver Omani as well! Nice!

Yes, there are many variants on sigma dials as the sigmas were added afterwards by Singer.... I'll add a couple with your positionning. Thanks for the input !!!

Is it me or is the R in Rolex off?

Hard to tell with low-res outputs - it can also be an exportation problem

But you are right, it seems the "R" is a little strange...

There are 5 fonts for "rolex" used here.... All based on gen dials high reso pics following the original design by the micron. What do you have in mind by "off" please? Thank you.

Lovely seeing all of these. Please make sure you ask for appropriately-tall hour markers, instead of the thin metal strips that DW currently puts on his dials.

I wish !!! But it's up to him really ! I'm just a customer trying to push for better quality aftermarket parts, as I am tired to pay for poorly finished items, overpriced only because of the demand and not because of the quality...

Thank you for looking at the plate number 1 designs. Attached are the designs for the plate number 2 (exotic). Any major flaw? Is there a design he missed here? Thanks !!!

Next, the Tiffany dial standard Daytona 6239 in many examples has black Daytona on sec@6 counter and Tiffany as third line..

Moreover, you inclued in the exotic the 2ROCD dial: this dial hasn't been produced AFAIK...

See also here for examples..

In the end, there are some examples of exotic dials branded 'Cartier'... Phong has some in his listings..

these dials with the nearly perfect subdials are available on the market since months. they were produced in vietnam and so it`s not a new project. they all have perfect subdial inner and outer rings, whats the big difference and have the right font and the coronets are genlike.

Mate, where did you see them? Any link?

that`s not a new project - in vietnam they try to produce them since end of last year. I told Phong in hundreds of emails that I can`t accept these crappy dials with the wrong font and subdials with wrong inner and outer rings, the bad coronets so they tried and tried to make it perfect.

look at my bigred topic, there are also enough flaws but after months of emails and pictures I stopped for a while, I think Phong hates me :-)

Aha ok i see, but this is a hole diferent story! We just have to wait and see ;)

Posted (edited)

no that`s not a different story, cause all of these guys are getting their plates from vietnam and all of them produce there. so if they now say we make new perfect daytona dials they only have new offers from the guys there.

and the "new" offers for high grade daytona dials are based on these new plates with the new subdials - and these plates are on the market since this year - so it doesnt matter if you buy from david, phong ndt etc, the only difference is the printing, the plates are the same.

In know Vietnam quite well, and I have personally met most major aftermarket parts dealers.... David is is SZ: it is a different network. HCM workshops are very artisanal and their machinery and production methods dates back from the 70's... Which is interesting to produce dials actually made in that era. The chinese use a whole lot different method of production : film for the chinese vs etching for the viets. However, different production method, different finished product. The plates DW will use are not yet made ! One thing for sure, he will be much cheaper than the viets, and that's why I focused on him.

Thank you for spotting the missing Cartier dials and point out the second Tiffany.... The 2ROCD dials were not produced, that is true, but they are in the original Singer archives I have... So, that means either a prototype was made, or just the intent to make it : therefore I included them since I strived to have the most complete data of produced AND unproduced dials. You can seen the ROCD dial matrix was considered looking at the "hidden Daytona" that can be seen on ROC dials.
