obelisque Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 It says it's a "Summer Blue Special Ed". I have tried to google and search forums for more info about this special ed, but can't find any references anywhere (And the Rolex.Com messes up my browser totally - no help there....) The TT with blue dial seems to be the popular ones! Still manufactured or a very limited numbers of watches? "Special edition" when?
Chrischy Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 This is a "Fantasy-Edition".Never built in Gen.
r11co Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Acquired wisdom was that these were produced in limited numbers for the Asian market.
crystalcranium Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Acquired wisdom was that these were produced in limited numbers for the Asian market. That would explain why they are pretty common in the rep market but practically non existent in genuines. It's too bad. I think it's a beautiful version of the Rolex Cheeseburger.
Chrischy Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Acquired wisdom was that these were produced in limited numbers for the Asian market. Do you have a Link or something?Im in Watches(Especially Rolex)for a long Time, but never seen this one in Gen or heard about it...

crystalcranium Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Thanks for the help. I will pass on this model. No one would believe that I am wearing a rare collectors model. Don't know if it's some sort of strategic decision, but since they already do the TT with blue dial, I do not really understand why it is not produced in pure steel and blue? Bright blue and steel is a perfect combination and VERY classy! A little more colour would not be that bad: The LV would e.g. look absolutely great with a matching dark green dial and I can admit that I am a bit fond of the red combination in the Colamariner, too (which I also have understood is a fantasy watch!) I agree, the blue/stainless is a beautiful combination. I have owned two of these. Unfortunately, they were both pieces of junk and neither is in existence today. One flew off my wrist and down a flight of concrete stairs when a bracelet screw came out and the crown fell off the dial of the other just before the stem broke on the asian movement.
ubiquitous Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 FWIW, the blue and steel was done as an older 1680 ca. 1970's prod. Very limited numbers, and not heavily documented. There is also a blue 1680/8 in 18k YG that exists with the blue dial/insert as well.
dachshund Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 The blue on steel was made as stated in the prior posts in a limited number for the Asian market, how ever the dial was completely different than the one pictured on Perfect Clone. The dial has indices for hour markers the are like no other Rolex I've ever seen, the metal part was the bulk of the indice with a very small lume dot in the center, once you seen it you instantly know that the traditional marker is nothing like the one in the blue model. I did have a link to a picture of it, if I can find the link, I'll post a picture so everyone can see the difference. That said, its still a beautiful watch, if you like it, buy it, fooling people is not what its about, at least not for me, I just enjoy each watch for what it is. Edited to show link http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?act=At...post&id=655
ubiquitous Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 The hour markers/indicies are similar to the nippled markers a la vintage gold and TT dials (like 1680/8's, 1675's, etc). They should look like this (except white metal, instead of gold)...

Just look at the pictures of the color blue in the O in Rolex. It's slightly lighter. Annoying! I bought the Colamariner, which is the only Rolex I have, and I love it. People always front me and ask about the watch. - Real or fake? My answer is always why do you think it's a fake, and can you point out the flaws? *LMAO*
RageRover Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 WOW, that’s really beautiful! Reminds me of the SS & blue Tudor Subs, which Rolex did produce. Rolex produced some GMTs with a black dial and fully blue bezel insert for the Argentine AF a while back. A black dialed sub w/blue ring I think can look cool too. And believable, as you can claim you just used the bezel from a Tudor.
HighDef Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Blue Sub produced for the Oriental market. http://catalog.antiquorum.com/catalog.html...&s_batch=12
Craytonic Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Was my first rep many (~ years ago; bought one in china town. Loved that color! Bezel didn't even have a pearl.... just a metal dot. I was young.
tonton2000 Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Just look at the pictures of the color blue in the O in Rolex. It's slightly lighter. Annoying! Thats because of the photoediting software Joshua uses, you'll see in the rest of the pics, the dial colour is fine and consistent throughout
Pugwash Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Thats because of the photoediting software Joshua uses, you'll see in the rest of the pics, the dial colour is fine and consistent throughout It's over-eager use of the magic wand to select the dial. Not the way you should be tinting the dial...
Pugwash Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 By the way, why is it called "Summer"?
ubiquitous Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 One could build a very accuate version of this using an MBW 1680, custom made dial from CWP, and a blue Tudor insert (say from a 94010).
haveblue Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 what crystal on the 1680 case would you recommend using for the franken-blue ubi?
Bigdoggy Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 This 1680 just sold at auction on Antiquorum for $85,000
ubiquitous Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 what crystal on the 1680 case would you recommend using for the franken-blue ubi? Why, T127, but of course!
