Phong 1680 red sub build. What do you think?

Hi. Im want to do a vintage build, so i want to buld a 1680 from phong.

Parts from phong:

1680 Complete case.

1680 Red dial.

1680 Hands.

All aged to get the vintage look.

Gen Rolex 1570 movement.

What date disc do you recommend? And where can i buy?

Buy a gen Bracelet or rep? Or go with Nato?

What do you think about phong's parts? Good? Over priced?

Phong has good cases (that will still need modding), but that's about it!

 

I'd suggest getting Michael Young 1680 hands if you're going to go aftermarket.

 

It's tough to find an accurate gen-feet placement red dial. To me they just don't exist.

 

I believe Misiekped has a 1570 date disc for sale in the parts section that is appropriate for your build

I would normally agree to stay away from phong's dials (cases are great) but I had a look at his red dials and 2/3 are actually quite good, the third is horrid and doesn't match with any known gen examples. Make sure you are getting one of the two good ones.

Edit the two comparo's are both gen top phong bottom

After he remade his site I can't find same amount of parts for sale. Is he only selling aftermarket crystals nowadays or does he still sell eg hands and inserts "behind the counter" so to speak..?

It's more behind the scenes because he became very popular with the gen crowd, He consolidated both sites and doesn't display his rep wares anymore. Email him and ask for whatever you need, he will help.

What repware does he provide?

I have already had him refenish a dial but I am not aware of anything related to rep stuff.

On his old website, he had quite a large variety of hand sets. I bought the hands for my Tudor "big crown" from him. good quality parts.

He's good for hands inserts and bezels of most any model.
