Hello Guys,

 

Perhaps you could take a look at the attached pictures... Dark/light spots on the polished surfaces at 6 and 7 o'clock, and darker spots at the brushed area at 12 o'clock.

 

Tried to wipe it away with water and a little hand-dishwashing liquid. Bad idea?

It looks stained, or tarnished.  You could try cleaning it up with some impregnated wet wipes, these don't have any harmful chemicals in, so arte safe to try.
