Blindpirat
Hi Guys!I just obtained some of parts to start 1680 no Cyclop project. I would like to build something like this:I do have:Gen 1575 movement.Gen Bezel with insert (pearl is broken)Gen t-19 crystalGen 703 crownGen 703 tube.Gen luminova Hands(Second hand is Tritium, need to decide on Lume)Pictures of some parts:I do need need:Gen dial (thinking about service 1680 "swiss" dial)Maybe Gen 1680 caseback. Rep Case or midcase: no idea what to get.. Could you suggest please what I should go for, it should be fully Gen spec. It's okay if it will require some modding. Thanks!Sent from Hell
Beachcomber
Now, go find a Gen case. No sense going frankin when you have all those great gen parts! My 1680 says hello-gen of course.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Blindpirat
Wow! That's nice one!Yes. I'm aiming to get Gen caseset later, but I'm currently on Full Gen 1016 project, it's really expensive... As I got some parts for cheap, I want to build something close to Gen but not expensive kind of good daily beater. Later I'll swap case. alligoat
I'd figure Yuki is the way to go. Not sure, but thinking a case would run $500-600 and a dial is $115 or $116. Then all you'd need is a 93150 and you're on the way to a beater. Yuki dials come with hands so you could pick and choose what's best.
panerai153
Buy one of the last of the old stock MBW watches for sale here. Will take a little case modding to use a gen dual, but it's not difficult. Will accept gen parts.Go to the sales forum and look for Rolexfinders ad. I agree that a phong or Yuki case would be the best, bet, however not sure that it would be cheap. The phong case is 1250.00, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DVNE
I say get a Phong case set or even MQ.

Blindpirat
Don't think that phong is an option, price is close to Gen. Couple of days ago I just missed 5513 case on VRM for 1600 euro I think. And you could easily get gen 1680 for 2000-2500$ I will buy old stock MBW from Rolex finder. Think this is the best option to go. I can easily sell it and upgrade to Gen in future. Sent from Hell
alligoat
Like panerai mentioned, you'll need to mod the case to accept a gen spec dial, take off about .5mm on the inside dial seat. Also trim the cgs and drill the lugholes, but those are easy!

automatico
"Be carefull with Yuki 1680 case , bought one Try to use a gen insert dont fit Try to use a Gen tube and need to use a tap Try to contact Yuki and NO answer ..." A few years back Yuki was sending out 1680 cases with wrong case tube threads, glued in case tubes etc. A forum friend bought one but Yuki exchanged it and the next one was Ok. I bought 5512 and 5513 cases from Yuki a couple years ago and they were both good so I quit while I was ahead. I have always thought every high priced 'custom made' case was hit or miss and if you get a miss, wear them out until they make it right. After all, we are paying $600+ for $1 worth or metal and a few hours of machine work. My guess is many of the high priced cases are cheap common cases machined to closer specs with good engraving. I may stick my neck out and get one or two 5513 from Josh and see how they compare with my high priced cases. Going by the watch that 'jackflash' posted pictures of, there is not much difference. If this is true, Yuki 5513 cases can be skipped, especially for Eta projects. Josh 1680 cases may be good too. The catch is if Josh changes suppliers or the supplier changes designs and the case is not as good next time around. You do not usually see the cases get better with 'improvements'. Blindpirat
Think I will go for these newly appeared NOS MBK 1680, and will enchant it a bit to accept 1680 gen dial. Should be fine. Sent from Hell
