Omega Smp Chrono; Rep Vs Gen Photo Comparison.

Un "Omega Seamaster Professionnel", en homage de By-Tor, pour vous.

Short & sweet; first photo is the gen, second is the rep.

SMP chrono rep courtesy of Josh last week, I've re-aligned the insert, and the 7750's movement has been adjusted to less than +5 secs per day. Contemplating throwing in a gen Eta 7750 & a re-lume job, per The Zigmeister--the gen 7750 will have the correct datewheel font as this one does not, but I could care less about it as of now.

The weight is spot-on; only within a few, meer grams of the gen (both having been sized to my wrist) and is so close, the difference is immeasurable in hand.

The band is fantastic; its only flaw, the ubiquitous rep screws, as opposed to pins.

Btw, the rep watch tested solid to 300 feet at the same AD I bought my gen from--the strongest pressure test on a rep I've (personally) seen yet! Simply amazing. And this weekend, she went down to about 60 feet, sound as a pound.

My apologies for the fuzzy picture quality--as it's low light & my tripod's been loaned out.

And here's the clearest pic I could get of the rep's dial:

And as with all reps the lume is decent, but unlike the gen it appears to fade fast. However, to its credit I will say I took this watch off my wrist @ 11 PM last night after toying with the lume & a flashlight, and when I awoke to have a slash around 4 AM, (in a completely dark room, mind you) it was still lit enough to tell exactly what time it was--hour markers and all. I must say so far, this is the closest to gen rep straight from the Box I've seen since the proverbial Rolex Explorer I.

Quite nice; four out of five stars.

Good review of an excellent rep.......!

A little tip.....if you're going to do comparison shots......then synchronise everything......hack the watches.....set them to exact same times.......especially if you are going to comment on differences such as date fonts.....( one set to 12 and the other set to 14 doesn't cut it ).........and if you can...use PS to label each photo with Gen or Rep.....a simple G or R on each photo helps......:D

You're more than welcome.

seeing you're review inspired me to set forth on an adventure to realigning my bezel...

so, off I went;

tried a old credit card first, heard about the cc trick here in the forums. However it did not work on this watch.

next out was the ole "toothpick"!!! oh ya! the ones with the mint at one end, it tasted good, but thats about it...

then, finally out came the .60 screw driver...I know... I know, the thought of a screw driver and a bezel just makes a man cringe...but it worked. I worked it in behind the area of the pearl and got it underneath the bezel insert. Then I proceeded to walk it around counter clockwise (I don't know why I chose "counterclockwise", just did) and WALA! the bezel insert came out. I cleaned up both the bezel and insert. reglued it in its proper position, and could not be happier!!!

this chrono is probably the second best rep out of the box, next to the old school 007 smp.

enjoy :)

I agree, you should mark the "rep" and "gen" to each picture.

It appears that your gen has more "pinkish" subdial hands. Is it apparent, or only visible in the zoomed pictures? I have plenty of gen SMP chrono pics in my hard drive and none of them have "pinkish" hands. Maybe this applies to newer models only?

I will link this to the Omega Guide for the next update. Great work... and of course beautiful watches! :)

Sorry, but I was going by old photos & trying to shoot from memory as best I could. I sold my gen SMP to a friend for Xmas, otherwise I'd have done a side-by-side shoot with them both.

I think maybe it was just the way the camera's chip interperated the macro shots with the given lighting during each shoot, possibly. Side by side, they appear the same.

Even the dial print quality is flawless on the rep. Still amazing.

I will say (and I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me on this) that if I do buy another gen soon, it will probably be this one again--but the newest model with the metal Omega ohm symbol, and the red-print "Seamaster" on the dial.

I.E., the 2225.80:

not the 2599.80:

Great review Gio!!!

Gratzie.

I do have two questions maybe someone could help with...

1) Will a gen bezel insert fit this watch without sanding, etc.?

2) I wonder if a gen bracelet will fit the rep just as good?

Nice review!

Interestingly, there are some characteristics of the rep watch that I think I prefer over the gen (i.e. the bezel insert font, etc). Overall, a very close comparo.

As for your questions... Genuine bezel insert might fit, but to my knowledge Omega will not sell the insert alone. Rather, the insert is sold with the bezel as one complete unit (at least that's how the ones for the SMP a la 2531.80 were sold).

No idea on the bracelet.

Thanks for posting...

Great comparison.

Was rep out of the box or did you do mods? Reason is that the bezel on your rep is alligned correctly where most are not.

Second, did you have it "waterproofed" or was it good out of box standard?

Finally, was it Josh or Andrew? Who was dealer?

Thanks!

Sorry to bring this old thread back! Does anyone know if the gen bracelet fits without modification? The bezel is really expensive, so it also includes the dial? Is that correct?

the gen bracelet does look much nicer in the underneath shots. The gen of this watch is better lume and the blue areas on gen bezel are anodized and have a more appealing hue, and like I mentioned the bottom of the bracelet appear much more precise.
