Guest RiverwindMDS Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 6542 GMT Pretty crazy, considering the rough condition of this watch (missing seconds hand, worn case, etc)... More than crazy...
Pre V Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Wow! You never know the value of a piece of metal till hordes of peeps chime in on it....
Pugwash Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Pretty crazy, considering the rough condition of this watch (missing seconds hand, worn case, etc)... Yeah, but it is gorgeous.
ubiquitous Posted January 17, 2007 Author Report Posted January 17, 2007 It's just interesting to see a 6542 in this price range in that kind of condition. The last one that I recall seeing in this price bracket was the one from the Mondani sale; far better condition and provenance in my opinion. Typically, 6542's might be half the price of this auction or a bit less. I just don't see what elevated this one to the price threshold that it ended at. Of course, with eBay's new format on bidder history, there's no real way of telling if shills were involved either...
Guest avitt Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Of course, with eBay's new format on bidder history, there's no real way of telling if shills were involved either... I actually think that the new format helps to identify potential shill bidders. If you check out the "Bidding Details", you can see things like:How long they've been registeredTotal bids in 30 daysNumber of different items bid on in 30 days% of bids with the particular sellerNumber of bids in unique categoriesWith this information easily available, I think it would be much harder for an unscrupulous seller to set up, and maintain, shill accounts.
docblackrock Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Mmmmm, 6542 Crazeeee price though - that's minty 1655/1665 territory - auction makes me think
erd04056 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 And the lume is not that well applied. Kinda sloppy in my opinion.
ubiquitous Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Wow. Ridiculous, but wow. Yes indeed. I'm still scratching my head over this one...
marrickvilleboy Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 and it doesnt even run.... this cant be the normal going price for this model can it Randy? .....
ubiquitous Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Oh, no... This is certainly not going rate! A nice example, clean case, bakelite, running and WITH A SECONDS HAND would probably command $6k to $10k on the very high end... And as I mentioned prior, the only example I've seen sell in this price range was from the Mondani Auction... Completely different class.
klingsor Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 6542 GMT Pretty crazy, considering the rough condition of this watch (missing seconds hand, worn case, etc)... and also wrong movement.... 6542 must have cal. 1036 .... you can see it here gmt story... it's a scam...
docblackrock Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 and also wrong movement.... 6542 must have cal. 1036 .... you can see it here gmt story... it's a scam... Sorry M, I agree it's a scam auction, but the movt shown here (1030) WAS used in the first 6542s, as was the later COSC c.1065. Source HERE
klingsor Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 ..............and this is all ignoring the $80,000 Submariner sitting out on Ebay right now............ $80k Submariner seems to be good... only a suspect about the bezel insert and the finishing of the lugs... case has the corrected engravings....(not like the vintage replica i have seen...) ....
klingsor Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Sorry M, I agree it's a scam auction, but the movt shown here (1030) WAS used in the first 6542s, as was the later COSC c.1065. Source HERE yes but i don't see all the modified parts ... i would like to see the other side.... and more ...it's so strange to see a 6542 to this evaluation... that it seems a scam... only for this reason and only cause the winner has a stealth feedback.... it's more easy that it's a normal 1030.... it's too clean.... i'm back DOc...covert operation are in progress....eheheh
ubiquitous Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Hmmmm... I dunno. This auction seems a little odd, but the seller (Watch-Co Australia) is legit.
