Airport Lounge Watch Watching

Jason

Recommended Posts

So I am bored sitting in the International Terminal Star Alliance Lounge here in Vancouver and I have seen a lot of nice watches today. Its a bi deal for a guy from little old Calgary. I would take pics but thats just plain weird.

So far I've seen:

Breitling Chrono Avenger

Another non-chrono SS Breitling (couldn't tell what it was)

Sub

Tag F1

and a lady with a J12

I wasn't in the lounge on my last business trip, but I noticed quite a few nice watches just waiting for my flight. Two subs, one Breitling, and two Omegas. Not one Panerai though.

I was in Geneva airport earlier today. No need to check other passenger's wrists as there are display case after display case of wonderful watches. Spent a very happy time trying on a Steelfish, a Monaco and a MM Grand Turismo XL to work out which one I liked best. Still can't decide; I love them all! If you're going to be stuck in an airport, Geneva is a watch-lovers dream :)

Geneva and Zurich are both great. The other great airport for watch lovers is Frankfurt. Every high end watch brand is for sale there.

Working in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas 5 days a week I see a large number of amazing watches and it is great amusment for sure. "Watch talk" has become a good pastime and you would be surprised about how people love to talk about their watches. Except on occasion if someone is wearing a rep then they tend to shy away and exhibit a somewhat uncomfortable demeanor. Depending on the situation I will or will not tell them my watch is s rep, but it sure is interesting to see what people are wearing.

I traveled 70k Air Miles last year, and have spent countless hours in Airport Boardrooms...

I actually enjoy sparking up conversations with peeps...

I come right and say "hey nice [fill in brand]"...

Folks like talking about there pieces...

It's a source of pride I guess...

Had a wonderful conversation last month in the Cabo Airport with a guy who had a PAM 111 on...

Where People Gather, Life Happens...

And I for one happen to enjoy talking with total strangers about there Watches...

Are you the dealer at the high stakes poker table that asked me about my Pam 251?

I love Caesars. Forum shops are great. They have a Tourneau that opened there recently.

I am not that dealer, but thanks for asking and yes, Caesars is great, although it was better before Harrahs

bought it. The Tourneau store is a place I am in quite often. :cc_detective:

How can I beat the casino and win ?

The only way to beat the casino is single deck blackjack. You will find it at the Golden Nugget downtown. I play 2 handed, $100/hand and last time made $1,100 in about 1.5 hours. If you can't count one deck, your best off not gambling.

That is too funny.

I have read many books on blackjack and poker, card counting, odds, etc. I have made a lot of money gambling. Believe me you can beat the casinos. You just have to play the right games and know some basic strategy. You won't do it with slots or pai gow or any of the carnival games, but with blackjack or craps you can have an advantage. At the very least you can play for several hours, have some fun, get free drinks and comp points to use for a nice dinner. That is winning in my book.

I love Vegas baby!!!

Another great Rodney quote: Last night my wife said do you wnat some super sex? I said I'll have the soup.........

I'll have to try that !

I know basic strategy by now, but haven't tried counting. I think I'll start on that soon.

Have to ask you about how to get an advantage in craps though.

BBy the way, is 2-handed playing twice at the same time?

You on your way to Japan?

Its been a long time without internet access. For some reason RWG was a blocked site in Myanmar, where I have been travelling for 3 weeks. So back to Canada for 5 days then I will be off to Tokyo on Saturday. Talk about some gruiling flights. But I should be use to it by now, I hit this side of the pacific 4 times in 2006 and SA 3 times. I have more airmiles than I know what to do with, guess I need more vacation days!!!

I did see some nice watches at MBK in my stopover, but the prices were higher than our dealers so a big thumbs up to them on the competitive pricing.

A small advantage over the house, in craps, can be obtained by intelligent betting, dice setting, and dice control. Placing smart bets is easy, Dice setting is easy, dice control is more difficult, but is where the real advantage lies. After the initial roll in craps, the house wins with every roll of the "7". By controlling how often the "7", or the "devil", shows up, you can tilt the advange slightly from the house to the player. There are several good forums on the topic, one of the most popular being Heavy's Forum, a link is attached below. Much like this forum, I think you have to pay a small membership fee for full access. I was on this forum for a year, good people, funny, boatload of knowledge, down to which table to play on which casino, no kidding. Enjoy, as this can also be an addictive hobby, especially the few weeks you are practicing before your trip to the casisnos :)
