JJFlash
You have heard me say this many times here before.... Never stick your head too high out of the foxhole. You're liable to take a bullet right between the eyes. Our hobby is best kept on the very low key. After all, it is illegal contraband. Someday someone may decide to make an example of us and raid the compound. They may not burn it to the ground, but they may trash the bejesus out of the place. ....and just because I'm paranoid does'nt mean they're not after us! Blackrain
As a recent Supernoob, I did not find RWG via Google, is was via the top 100 watch list. I had used the standard "Rolex" spelling in my searches. It took me 3 nights to finally land here. I don't know how sales/mod/service/repair volume is tracked by the dealers. It would be interesting to hear how the top 200 posters/collectors on RWG compared to other 5000 people who joined the forums..........who bought most of the reps.........who created most of the mod business.........who supports the rep service sector.........how much forum support was from the dealers/top posters/members/lurkers..............in essence, what is the "Mission Statement" of the RWG? Is it an awesome hobby site? A dealer's clearing house? An endless supply of Panerai watch porn? A mix of everything? Now that I'm here, I'd think it's cool to go deep underground, as long as you take me with you But I wonder how much the Forum/Dealers need the lurkers/noobs/low post count peeps? Can you risk losing them financially by becoming unfindable, or are they just flies buzzing around the cake? With flies buzzing around my head, I'm back down into my hole........... andreww
Hate to say it, but I honestly believe that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Losing Paypal is a pain, but I think that our little hobby will soon be targeted by forces a lot more threatening than Paypal. We are indulging in counterfeit goods, and openly flaunting it. Our reps have become so good that it would take a WIS to identify the genuine article. I believe that in the past, watch manufacturers tolerated us as quality was way off the mark, and Canal street merchandise posed no threat to their clientele. I work at one of Canada's largest financial companies, and you wouldn't believe the "high earners" that have shown real interest in my watches (I don't hide the fact that they are reps). If Paypal has found our little haven, the you can bet your ass that Rolex, Omega, Breitling, et al have found us too. The end may come sooner than you think, so get em while you can people. Just my opinion.
Gavilan
I dont know if its related, but i just got notification from my bank that my Credit Card had been identified as a target for fraud. "Visa Fraud Control has recieved an alert reguarding a possible compromise of my card details overseas. Which may lead to unauthorised activities being conducted on your card in the furure." They want to replace my card with a new one in 7 days, great timing as i leave for Canada in seven days and i only have one credit card.
Category 5
I can't help but wonder if this all has anything to do with the influx of new users I have seen posting in the last couple of weeks. I mean, I hate to say it because a year ago I was one, but I have been seeing quite a few users with less than 10-20 posts lately, and it did strike me as odd. Certainly whoever is responsible for this act has taken a place amongst us. Who are you evil one!!!?

If this kind of paranoia , i'm not saying it's not the logical sentiment , remains here in the community it will be the end of an era , no matter what . That's sad . P. Raijor
Adapt - that is the nature of Capitalism. Those that want to continue buying and selling, must adapt. History has proven that contraband will never be stopped - ever - and even after that. I just completed an order with Josh and opted to pay via Western Union. Payment was smooth but took a little longer and cost more than with Paypal. A cost of doing business. Paypal was convenient but it is gone - so I adapt. And as Vinnie Barbarino used to say - "UP THEIR NOSE WITH A RUBBER HOSE." Cheers all

Cat 5 is right - it is me...I was sent to spy on the site by the powers that be. But after a couple of weeks I found myself seduced..obsessed with the quality of the reps and the pursuit of perfection that so defines this group. I ordered one, than another and another until I couldn't control myself. And you all reached out to me and for the first time I felt accepted, like I belonged. Now that I have been exposed, you can stop the witchhunt...

I don't mean to make light of it - but I am a member of TRC for 3 years and I only have like 40 posts. (but many trades!). Some of us here like to read and study and learn - and there is a lot to learn no doubt. I gotta trust the admin and mods of this site are vigilant in their oversight of memberships and member activity. Meanwhile outside of this thread its business as usual with trades, reviews, FAQ's and so on. I have some more reading to do...

Chronus
Is it a possibility that there is a rogue dealer informing on their competition? Perhaps even one who doesn't have a spot on here as a dealer, so that they can get in? Paranoid maybe, but don't discount all possibilities... what is the best way to eliminate competition? Stop the money flow ?

Pugwash
Rogue dealer? No, it's most likely they heard about the site from someone and then checked their referrer logs. From a technical standpoint, it's obviously aimed at RWG, not at dealers. The only possible intrigue you can have is asking how they found out about the site and that is a question for another day. Pugwash
Perhaps a dealer who is not on here or has not been allowed to? Or even a ReplicaCentre affiliate? It's much easier to imagine it's Rolex, Omega, Breitling or someone like that, no? Imagine a GAF lawyer sifting Google. Today, he finally gets to RWG, after sending C&D letters to the US-based numps, and finds dealers selling with Paypal. He gets in touch with Paypal who then trawl the PP referrer logs on their webservers, or they add a regex to the logs and catch PT and Reg using Buy Now buttons (a trivial task for a sysadmin worth half his salary, tbh) and investigate. They will possibly even have someone lurking on this board to make sure.
