Well I need to buy some leather tools and the best deal I have seen is at a store in US.

The store is called TANDY LEATHER Factory and it has many interesting things...

There are so many sub-stores in every city in US that I thought that maybe someone (that I know of course..) can do me the favour and buy me what I want and send it to UK.

Of course I will paypal him the entire amount..

To be honest I don't feel comfortable to ask this favour to someone that I don't know very well.. I think it is too much to ask.. and after all those years in RWG I made a few friend in US that can help me and feel more close to them..

I wish you had posted this request on Friday or even on Saturday, as I was out and about running chores all day Saturday and could easily have swung by one of the locations on your list. The alternate strategy, if no one else steps forward and you can't wait, would be for one of us to purchase the kit for delivery to our homes, and then forward it to you in the UK. I've forwarded several packages in the last few weeks to my brother in London, so I'm getting rather used to the customs forms and the folks at the post office.

I wish you had posted this request on Friday or even on Saturday, as I was out and about running chores all day Saturday and could easily have swung by one of the locations on your list. Hey don't worry my friend..

I would prefer someone to buy it from the store and save the 10$ postage cost they charge for a US adress..

If no one else is in close proximity of a store I will let you know maybe next weekend :)

I'm sure one of us could help if need be, but can't you simply order via the internet for delivery to UK.

I have already send them a couple of emails with enquiries of shipping costs etc but I haven't received any reply..

ANyway.. I am sure it will be cheaper if someone was close to the store and send it without handling and other extra costs they put to make extra profit.

I've been toying with the idea of making a few straps myself. I've recently found some really nice 6-8 oz hides that would make gorgeous straps... Maybe I'll stop into one of these stores and check it out.

Aaron was very happy to help me on this.. We talk very often and he told me some techniques..

But I have to get this kit to my hands to start trying :black_eye:

I started to ask myself whether there might be alternate resources, such as a different supplier of arts and crafts supplies, closer to me. No luck.

I was just in the Tandy Allentown store on Saturday!! I met the manager "Jeff".. good guy and I'm sure he can help you out? Let me know if you want me to contact him. Shipping can't be that bad??? By the way.. 6-8 oz leather is pretty thick? You have to fold over the strap so you have a loop for the lug screw?? Might want to stick w/ 3-4 oz stuff as use a filler to beef it up.

Well.. shipping will definately be more than if someone will send it to the post office..and you contact the manager won't make any difference because I have to arrange payment details, credit cards etc.. If someone pays cash and me transfering them the money through paypal will be easier for me.

The Winter Park location is pretty close to me, if you can't find anyone else I'd have no problem going and picking it up and you can Paypal me afterward. LMK I'll probably be heading that way toward the end of the week.

6-8 oz is good strap thickness IMO. That's about 2mm, so the strap would come out to about 4 to 4.4 mm in thickness. No internal filler needed. The straps with internal fillers tend to be stiffer and less comfortable. For example, HKTan straps are the stiffest I own. The greg straps appear to use an internal filler, but for some reason are able to remain pliable and comfortable. But the most comfortable straps I've got are the simple fold-over such as those from vintagerstraps.com. Light weight leathers just don't do the job. Also, the amount of labor necessary to build a strap with filler is probably almost double.

I spoke to Greg regarding his straps, he uses 3-4 oz and yes uses a filler. I bought a slew of different remnant leathers from Tandy since they are close by.. enough to make maybe 3000 straps if I had the time. I'm still working on my first frankenstrap 3-4 w/ filler and it's very pliable. Any idea where to source 24/26 buckles cheap? $20 is rediculous. Are you done w/ your first yet?
