This is why I like the GMT Master

can't agree more. The pepsi and the black/burgundy are the most colorful rollies. Sporty and gentlemanly in one. It's also my favorite. I personally like the correct hand stack version but 2 such movements have slipping hour hands. Joe said to press the dial tight by adding a couple drops of glue to the dial ring so the dial will hold some gear for the hour hand better (yes, Joe said the dial helps hold it in place). I haven't done that yet. I hope there's a more permanent fix.

my pepsi. I modded it so the bezel can be popped off by hand. I'm making 2 more removable bezels (all black and black/burgundy) so I have 3 watches in 1:

Nice one blkm. I see they have fixed the dial for the correct hand stack version, or has it been modded? Did you modify the cg's too?

If I were you I'd change the insert. The numbers are a bit too thick. Not a big deal though... :)

Bytor, Great watch. I've been looking for one with the correct hand stack. Where did you find it?

No, no... it's my old rep with wrong hand stack. Actually it's 2 years old next May. It's the same watch that has been reviewed here. I'm very satisfied with it. Wrong hand stack doesn't bother me at all (it's just similar with the old models and the movement is bullet-proof without those modifications).

nice watches guys and nice photos.

you know i really keep trying to get into the GMT, especially the vintage 1675 but i just cant get inspired by them. i really want to but they just dont talk to me yet. i wish they would hurry up though as you can still pick up old ones for sensible money. no doubt ill get the bug once theyve rocketed too :(

Thanks By-tor. Great review of it. My search has begun. Just trying to decide black or blue. The black seems a little more refined to me.

Yeah... the age-old dilemma... which one to get? I like all GMT's as long as they have half-red bezel. :) Here's my solution (2 inserts and bezels).

The Pepsi is my favourite these days... but the black/red is much dressier. It's a "gentleman's choice".

Thanks By-Tor. I ordered a pepsi insert from where you recommended and will change it out later. Here's a couple of more recent photos. I changed the crown to a correct sized one. Yes, I sanded the inside CGs.

ME too love the GMT... while one might argue about the pricing or Rolex, I for one think you can't argue the fact that Rolex has given the watch world some great, timeless designs, one of the being the GMT. I rate this (and the Submariner / Seadweller) up there with the best of designs (like a 911 Porsche, a VW Beatle, the Coca Cola Bottle etc.) - stuff you recognize in an instant, because the basic design was so good that over the years, there was never a need for a radical change.

On another note, the GMT is a very comfortable watch to wear...

I go to Tourneau in Chicago every few months to get rep purchae ideas and last time I was there thay had a Pepsi GMT. I don't know if it was the lighting in the case or the way the display glass magnified the watch, but the GMT really caught my eye, a really beautiful watch. Made me want the rep, and I never cared for the pepsi too much - black dial, red & blue insert, too much.

The one thing that has to be done with the rep is to replace the insert and get one that has a nice deep red and blue. like the gen, which is gorgeous.

I never used to be too keen on the GMTs but the other day something 'clicked', and I figured it might be worth getting one for sake of the collection. I have other presents to pay for before I can treat myself to anything, but, when I can, my first personal purchase will be an SS black on black GMT Master II, and I'm thinking about also swapping the bracelet for a Daytona strap. Out of curiosity, is the SS black on black a genuine color, or a only a fantasy model?

SS, black dial, black insert is a gen color option.

This turned out to be a great watch-related thread... exactly what the forum needs. Lovely gens & reps guys!

Here's some shots I've taken of the GMT... many of you have probably seen them many times but why not post them again... since this turned out a "GMT watch porn" thread. :)

Wish there were more threads like this around here like we used to have.

This is what this hobby is all about: beauty & enjoyment of beauty!

Those pics are wonderful by the way!
