I have plenty of Dead boots... and while most of the gigs have their great moments they're usually filled with boring jam sessions (for me anyway). Nothing against Dead though, I respect them a lot. They got their massive live success without any support from the mainstream media (in that sense they were a lot like Rush and DMB). And I love all the songs by Brett Mydland. Very beautiful. They have always been virtually unknown in Europe, so I can't probably fully understand their attraction among the masses. They were so "American"... if you know what I mean... Mpstly i just spent all my money @ Wax Trax Records--I have a hundred or so bootleg LP's in my basement somehwere if any old timers want a CD of their fav 80's college rock band playing live. The ones I remember are: R.E.M--live in Ames Iowa ,1985. I think I had the entire Reckoning tour. The Minutemen--San Diego, 1987?. Maybe the greatest 30 minutes of live music ever recorded. The Replacements--CGBG, 1988 Someone yells "You Suck!" Paul Westerberg Replies, "Dad, you made it." Their encore consists entirely of horrfic versions Black Sabbath. The Ramones--Cabaret Metro, Chicago 1983. Husker Du: Minneapolis 1984. Somebody (Metallica?) playing an entire set of Misfits songs around 1988 or 89.
