Guest Sql_pl
As you all probably know I recently got a pair of 40 mm PAMs from River. Black faced PAM 00050 rep and white faced 00051. Both watches are really nice - at first it was difficult for me to get used to the 40 mm size as I alerady had some 44 and 47 mm PAMs... but have to say that after a day you really get used to it and it does no longer seem to be that small - I think that SS bracelet helps a bit. Both watches are nicely finished however I discovered some things that are different. Looks like my watches come from two different batches or maybe even whole factories. The main and biggest difference is that the black 050 is fitted with a newer asian 7750 that beats at 28800 bph while the white one is still using the older type - even though I got a 050 around 2 weeks earlier.. Crown guard levers are a bit different as well and so are the crown guards. In the 050 there is more gap between the crown and the guard than in the 051. Serial numbers differ - I actually like it as having 2 watches with same serials is not comfortable - especially when there is a possibility they will be both worn at once - by me and my girlfriend. Both are C series out of 5000 made: 051 is 0468: 050 is 0836: There was a post on old RWG where a member who had both River's 051 and a genuine 051 pointed that his rep had shorter hands than genuine one. My 051 has shorter hands than my 050 so I believe this problem might have been solved in new 051s too. And some additional pics of the pair: To sum up. There are some differences between the reps and gens like date mag, lume, a slightly different brushing of the case but it alo looks like there are 2 series of these reps available. It would be difficult to choose between white and black dial so I am happy to have both. I never really liked the idea of white face on a Pam but now I started to like it - the numbers look cool as they are applied to the dial the way they stick out a bit... and that glossy, deep white color... really cool! Maybe I will go for a 7753 188 instead of a 196? I know that 40 mm PAMs are not really popular here but I hope that my review/comparison helped you a bit. Cheers! V
Thanks for your effort there Maciek.. I personally am not a 40mm person but my wife liked the idea of having the one of the two, so when I will see a used one for sale I will get it to her. She instantly destroys (scratches etc etc) every watch i get her so only used from now on
jonthebhoy
Excellent review. I have the 51 and whilst it doesn't get a lot of wrist time, it's a keeper for sure. JTB

jonthebhoy
Thanks guys! BTW - what serial number is on your 51 JTB? I'll check tomorrow. Wife is sleeping and my cases are locked away in the room. Don't want to disturb her. JTB
