meaning of oyster?

I am sure this sounds like a stupid noob question, but why are most of the rollies 'oyster' type? What is the reason behind it? I have searched, but yet to find an answer.

Oh, and for those who want to flame, who has the best sub? :animal_rooster:

Thanks for that CS. Had I spent another 10 minutes on google, I would have discovered the answer.

And... thats also why there is a "pearl" on the Submariner bezel insert ;)

oyster... pearl... get it? All related.

Oyster refers to the construction of the case. Rolex pioneered the first hermetically sealed watch case to withstand deep depths while diving. It is shut as tight as an oyster and made from a solid piece of metal.
