Awesome info. I guess what would be the best way to"fake "it? A gen bracelet with gen springbars, and a modded Sub dial/ Who makes the closest looking Sub? ;)Anyone?

Looks like one of our RG-based community members is feeding them lots of information too. The only thing missing were the links to our forums and the contact information & birth certificates of our dealers. The thread isn't dead yet though...

PS: This comparison is old as the mountains, I've seen it years ago.

which model of the LV rep are they comparing it with there?

It's the old CN based Submariner rep from 2005. Quite crappy one, at least by today's standards.

And they even miss the most noticeable flaw: datewheel/cyclops positioned WAY too right.

This proves one thing only - the rep is as close to the gen as you are likely ever to achieve. Why shell out the price of a gen when you can have a rep that, without the use of a loupe, is as near as damn it identical, for a fraction of the cost !! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

This is typical, they take the crappiest rep they can find then compare it against a gen.

Actually this rep was decent 2+ years ago. But either way, the less they know about us and our watches, the better. I hope our members won't start "outing" us in the gen forums. It's the last thing we need... it's even written in the RWG rules.

In all fairness to Rob, he wasn't so much giving information away, as pointing out how the factories operate (fairly standard knowledge) and pointing out that we're just people with an interest in watches. It was the elitist "I bought my watch from an AD" twats who were getting their boxers in a bunch over it. So someone spend $4000 on a watch and thinks that makes them a 'Big Man'? I think it makes them a chump who worships commercialism  As pointed out by FiremanFred, all that comparison goes to show, is that someone can by a rep which, without a loupe, is virtually indistinguishable from the gen, for a fraction of the cost  Why pay the extra? An 'official brandname'? Sorry, not worth the extra duckets in my book :D

I guess you're right, not a big deal. But it still pisses me off to see our people going to gen forums and "educate" them with their "superior rep knowledge". I never understood why they do it.

Occasionally, you also see stuff like "Look, I was into reps but now I bought this gen Submariner and finally saw the light... the crown FEELS SO MUCH BETTER, and suddenly my shit started to smell like roses too." I don't mean Rob though.

PS: I've seen the most impressive gens here in the rep community. I don't visit "The Purists" though. :)

I couldnt agree more with you bytor...I've owned many gens and still do, and I actually had my fathers gen full gold datejust from the 80's and posted pics on TRF and got nothing but pompus, snyde remarks from their members...Than I found this community and people are much nicer and a all around a much better atmosphere here...AD this, AD that is all you hear on those forums and its quite pathetic how they think owning a gen rolex makes you the $h!t...Theyre not accepting of new members over there, if they see that you have below 50 posts theyll treat you with no respect and assume every watch you post is fake..Ill never post on their pompus site again...Hope I didnt offend anyone, just my 2 cents...

I definetly won't be educating anyone outside our community on the finer details of our reps...I have read hundreds of posts and done lots of studying to learn all the things I have on the rep forums. Let them learn it for themselves!!! If you give away all our secrets then the hobby is pretty much over :(

Occasionally, you also see stuff like "Look, I was into reps but now I bought this gen Submariner and finally saw the light... the crown FEELS SO MUCH BETTER, and suddenly my [censored] started to smell like roses too." I don't mean Rob though.

I'd guess that they get [censored] off with people on gen forums slagging off reps as if all reps are Canal St quality, and all rep collectors are wannabes living on welfare, so want to redress the balance. To be honest, I think comparisons like that are a joke, as, as someone else mentioned, they missed a detail about the cyclops, so it reads more as a regurgitation of information rather than something they actually understand (or they wouldn't've missed the other detail) and, as previously mentioned, there's a heck of a difference between being able to spend hours/days staring at a 500% sized high definition image of a watch from all angles to spot flaws, and catching a glimpse of a watch at 10ft in a crowd for a few seconds as someone passes. Things like the detail on the diver's extension, yes, interesting to know that that's a difference, but, something that under 'normal conditions', anyone but the owner would never see. To be honest, such people on the gen forums are just shallow elitists, likely with no actual product knowledge of their own.

I have to admit, if I read a comment like that, I think I'd laugh my ass off  I admit, gens might have that 'little extra' to a rep, but personally, I don't consider that 'little extra' worth the 'big extra' on the price tag, so even if I were to aquire a gen somehow (I'd certanly never buy one unless it was dirt cheap) it still wouldn't take away my appreciation of reps :)

All this is so funny.

Let them compare a gen to our modded TW/MBK...full of original parts :1:

I love this game.

I was doing a tour in my city with a friend the other day and took pics of genuine Rolies at ADs.

It's so impossible to spot the differences without holding them and having a loupe.

And as RepAustria often say: used genuines are so diverse after servicing and getting original parts but from different suppliers of Rolex.

Come on, we have 99% looking genuine watches for 10 to 20% maximum of the cost of their mothers :1a:
