drop Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Has anyone taken their 3717 skin diving / swimming? If so, what mods, if any, did you do to improve water resistance?
rckh Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 The watchsmith who had fully serviced my IWC3717 told me : "DO NOT WEAR YOUR WATCH TO BATH OR SWIM"........ Best Regards, Raymond
Watchmeister Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Certainly pressure test it first. The seals all have to be properly greased and the leading culprit on chrono's are the pushers. It may be fine but until you test it you are playing Russian Roulette with your watch. It can be fine on one occasion and leak like a sieve on another. I have not taken the 3717 swimming but have taken many others. But they all were sealed up by a watch smith first.
dluddy Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 I wouldn't take any Chrono Rep in water.
milwaukee Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I have taken my 3717 swimming a number of times and never had a problem with it. Just my 2 cent though. You're on your own.
eunomians Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 What? You went swimming with it? Never ever get it near water! The pushers are simply little buttons with no seals at all. Open one up and you will see what I mean.

milwaukee Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Guess I got lucky then. I did have it in to my local watch guy for a service of the movement though. Maybe he took some precautions?
arminvanbuuren Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 crazy! i always shower with mine all the time when i had it.. ouft i must be one lucky person! NEVER AGAIN!!! or maybe if rob is listening he can seal everything up!
Pugwash Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I've splashed mine without problems, but I'd not recommend anything like swimming or bathing with it on.
deltatahoe Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I wouldn't take any Chrono Rep in water. this is good advice. there are plenty of great watches (uPO, steelfish, sub, etc) you can wear in the water with normal precautions (ie. have pressure tested and be sure to tighten case back, he valve and crown). why risk it with one of your chronographs? deltatahoe
Merlin Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I'd never take my 3717 to swimming - when it's gonna be more wet than rain I'll take my Citizen Promaster for sure. But last year on summer holidays I took my PAM 183 for swimming in the mediteranian sea with no prob, but - as mentioned before - it's not a chrono...

My friend had his serviced and one the screws inside were developing rust. He never swam or splashed it .. it was near the pushers so the watch smith said it was due to humidity. The pushers are the biggist issue with this watch with water resistance (or lack of)
drop Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 OK, so it's fair to say that I should forget about swimming with this... Seriously though, appreciate the feedback... didn't know if those pushers were selaed or 'moddable'
monte Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 hmm, swimming and 2m deep no problem with my 3717
eunomians Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 hmm, swimming and 2m deep no problem with my 3717 There is no, I repeat, no seal at all within the pushers.
