baltic Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Whilst browsing on TZ I came across the following picture of one bloke's collection:
docblackrock Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Seen that a little while ago....still amazing though! Like Tanfo but with gens Almost every sports model represented there except strangely no Explorer II or Milgauss Check out that ROW of SIX red 1680s in the middle - notice three of them have no-cyclops tropics on them. But for me the most jaw-dropping is probably that gilt-dialled Bond with Brevet 8mm crown - second row third from left next to the DRSD - even if it has got a wrong insert on there. If I had to pick though I'd probably go for that 6542 GMT at the centre bottom, just for aesthetic reasons

Sorry doc' didn't know it was posted before but I'm very new to the Rolex world and by heck I've got a LONG way to go to get to your level of knowedge - amazing!
docblackrock Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 No worries wasn't posted HERE before just saw it on TZ not long ago. Ach you caught me pre-editing my post there It really is mesmerizing to see I just had to keep looking and rechecking my facts!
Stephane Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Hmmm, well, yes, what ? Speechless in fact
docblackrock Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 An amazingly rough estimate, but I think you're looking at close to HALF A MILLION $USD for that little lot (approx. 40 lots)
baltic Posted November 9, 2007 Author Report Posted November 9, 2007 It really is mesmerizing to see I just had to keep looking and rechecking my facts! You're telling me, I can't begin to estimate how much that collection is worth! As I said I'm v v new to Rolex (been a committed Omega Speedy nut to date, with a few PAMS for the heavy metal look). I've just ordered the new 'super' SD from PT (first rep I've bought in about 6 months) - dipping toe v lightly into Rolex pond In fact I'm such a new 'un to Rolex I didn't even realise they started in London!
Watchmeister Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 By the way on the one gilt Bond a very similar one with large crown and replacement insert just sold at Christies a couple of weeks ago for $41,600. You may want to rethink that estimate. At the same auction a gen 3646 with provenance and pictures failed to sell with an estimate of $70,-100,000.
manuel Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 lot of brown dials! This guy is collecting rare watches nonetheless. Red sub must mean something important to him also.
freddy333 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 That TZ member's collection is nice, but there are a number of other TZ'ers with considerably larger collections. Zane, for instance, has the most extensive collection of gen Daytonas I have ever seen. Puts the collection at the beginning of this thread to shame.
docblackrock Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Red sub must mean something important to him also.I'd guess it's the model that started him off, and off he went from there... If it were me though, I'd find it impossible NOT to diversify even if it meant selling a few Subs off (not like this guy has a funding problem I'm sure but...) - needs another GMT or two, definitely a 1655 without any shadow of a doubt, and perhaps a 5514 or COMEX 1665.
1665fan Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Thats philips collection. He's a well known collector, and the picture shows not everything he has, there are even some more watches....
baltic Posted November 9, 2007 Author Report Posted November 9, 2007 ... and the picture shows not everything he has, there are even some more watches.... Bliddy hell!
1665fan Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Another great collection shown on the VRF is the one of Mike. Look at page 9, the thread is called: Mike Wood hits the big five.... He has 7 Comex, some Explorer dial Submariner, it's an incredible collection!! Regards Chris
eunomians Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Mr. Wood is a famous collector/dealer. Here's another pic:
Watchmeister Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 But they don't have the same date.
