Reasons to buy

Taking this one step further , From the hilarious Gunner-Gran, just what are the reasons people spend their hard earned on Reps?

Style, case size, material, dial layout, hands,Make, etc.

I think that, originally whoever buys what and for whatever reason, is the fact that the buyer (rep) loves the original, to the degree that they go as far as they are able ( $$$ wise ) to mod them .

Is a rep buyer saying that the gens are overpriced?

Or that they prefer a rep. to a gen because of the huge price difference?

Very interested to hear comments.

Are you writing for some newspaper about rep buyer? ;)

I wish.

I spend the money because I could afford the gens but I could only buy one and I would feel sorry about spending 3000

In the past there have been several topics about the rep buyer's motif.

A lot of people around here either think the gens are overpriced or they prefer the variety of owning several nice reps for the price of one gen. Although there are also some that start with reps as a 'trial' and end up buying the gen(s).

Well this might be true in a very few cases but in general most of us didn't even know that a lot of the watches we buy existed before coming here.

I think it is easier to just say 'We love timepieces' and be sure to note the plural because most of us are middle aged and probably could buy one or two gens, but hey at last count I think I had around 25 watches....case closed.

'We love timepieces'

I think , that is the plain and simple , down to earth truth that we all feel .

But deep down, we still prefer quantity over quality.

I could afford many gens, but with my lifestyle , it would be a waste of money.

These are the true ways of the collector.

I love watches...all of them...old, new, rep, gen...

Reps allow me to get some very nice pieces that otherwise I would just have to drool over them in the glass display case.

I have had my share of gens and still have a few....have slowly been selling of my gen panerai's after discovering this forum...no need to spend $4k plus on such a simple watch that is so easily repped and with the same friggin movement as the gen... :bangin:

Not going to put down gens...the fit and finish is in another class...i finally bought a gen Rollie TT Yachtie for my wife last week...a gorgeous watch and it matches up to my gen TT sub....no rep, that I know of, can come close to the TT rollies's gold...and I ain't wearin' no fake gold NOR would I ever expect my better half to do so... :bow_arrow:

Then again, these rollies might get sold as i am getting sick and frickin tired of being asked...."uh, is dat real"....STFU and leave me alone! :disgust::doh:

I'm babbling again....bottom line for me....cost and quality of the reps are why I buy.... :clown:

cheers....oh, and they make me look so cool....NOT! :cool2:
